My cat and I love each other - ( BTW I am male , my cat is female) ... we sleep together, she sleeps on top of me and sometimes on the side and we hold hands when we sleep ( my hand her paw)...
But lately we are having fights ... It angers me when my cat does not respond to my calls , also when my cat tries to cheat me .(pretending she has to go to bathroom , instead she wants to go outside to play etc ).. how can we reduce our fights ??
( I guess I am more used to dogs and more used to more obedient pets - this is my first cat)

Thanks Volkie !!!
You put the finger exactly what bothers me ...that this cat seems to come to me only when she needs something from me ...and that angers me and I feel used ....
I want the cat to be like my dog ...ie whenever I call her she should come ... I guess it seems that it is not possible !!!

You've got a learning curve to go through with a cat if you think they're like dogs. They're not dogs, they won't act like dogs.

No, they don't come when you call, and they don't do tricks or try to please you because they're not pack animals. Dogs respond to the pack leader. Cats are social, yes, they form small prides, but they do NOT try to please the pride leader because each is an equal and they do their own thing.

Best to learn that cats will be feline and you're going to have to compromise on everything--don't try pulling 'dog leader' on them because they just do not live that way.

First of all, you should have a litterbox inside so that your cat can go to the bathroom in it. This is more effective because she can go when she needs to without you needing to be there. Second of all, cats never respond to people's calls. They will look at you and know you're calling them, but they'll only come to you if they want something from you (to be petted or to lay on you, etc.). Cats are an extremely different kind of animal than dogs, so since you're used to dogs you think this is abnormal behavior, but really you have a loving cat if she sleeps with you, but cats are just independent and dismissive by nature.

Not being pack animals, cats are independent and don't have a compulsion to please anyone but themselves. Territory is much more important to them, than their place in the pecking order.

Physical punishment, shouting etc. does not work with cats. Positive reinforcement, such as food treats and praise for good behaviour works better. They are very smart animals and soon learn to do things that benefit them in some way.

It sounds like you have already built up a good relationship with your cat, but all of them have a certain degree of what I call "cattitude" and there will be times when they adopt that "Im not listening" mode as their attention is focused on something they consider to be more interesting.

The Messybeast web site has some really interesting and educational articles about cat behaviour, which you might enjoy reading.

Cats are habitual animals. Meaning they learn mostly by habbit. They are not very obedient, it's just the way they are.
Give yourself time to learn the ways of a cat. They are not like a dog but make just as Wonderful pets as any dog.
Nothing like curling up to a purring cat at night when going to sleep. Best luck, God bless

I love cats 2 but if u really do want ur cat 2 be happy then let it do whatever it wants like I do with my kitty. Oh and never get mad with it cuz it might be scared of u for awhile and when u try 2 pet it, it might run away from u cuz sometimes it'll think that ur trying 2 hit it so let it have a little fun

First and foremost, you have to realize who is boss. I know, you are the human, but the cat is the real boss. Your sole function in life is to attend to the needs of the cat, emotional needs, attention needs, food, water, and a nice lap for naps. As soon as you realize these simple facts, you will get along purrfectly!
