and your children had a 1 in 4 chance of being born with this illness, live a life of pain with average death within 6 or 7 years, and you wanted children...what would you do? Would you still try to have children naturally?

In the past we have raised 23 foster children, esch of them were a challenge in their own was but each one also brought their own reward also,
it might seem amazing that we can love a child that is not oof our own blood, but when you reach out to a child, and let them into your heart you will find that the love that is there is not any different.
we had 2 children of our own, but we also loved each of our foster children also, and there are so many children out there needing the love that we can only share.
I would adopt, or become a foster parent, for I would not want to bring a child into this world for a short life of pain.

it isnt quite the same thing .... but...
my husband has diabetes and we know that this may be passed in generations
so we did think long and hard before deciding to have a child
not wanting the child to go through life with injections and problems arising from diabetes etc
it was only by studying some medical advancements in diabetic treatment that we decided to have a child

I feel that in the case of a child being born into pain and perhaps not living long enough
I would have to unselfishly put my own feelings for a child aside and perhaps adopt as someone has already suggested

it is hard to say what i would do. on one hand modern science has come a long way, and it is possible in these days to determin wheter the unborn child does have the illness and thus it is possible to preform a miscarage. on the other hand, killing an unborn child is the same as killing a grown man. on the other hand (ya i know its 3 hands) stem cell research can be contributed humongously by the embreo, and could possibly save many lives in the future.

there is another option, which is adopting. thousands of orpans worldwide need a family.
i guess that after a long talk with my wife, and after we decided together we do not mind have a non biological child we would adopt.

That would be a hard question to answer without being in that situation but I would think that I would adopt. The loss of a child would be unbearable.

Adopt. There are plenty of ready-made kids out there that need loving homes.

This is ridiculous! You can't live in fear that your child MAY end up with the desease that you and your husband carry.

God bless
