Is there a satisfaction guarantee with this product? Is there a way to have Microsoft replace it with a prior version?

You would have to contact DELL to see if they will take it back.

If they don't take it back, YOU ARE STUCK. Look through the help system about ways to get around the parts that you don't like. You might write a polite letter to Microsoft and voice your opinion:

Yeah, I don't like the newer versions either. I have already mailed Microsoft to tell them about my dissatisfaction of the new look.

Here are my arguments for keeping Microsoft Office looking the way it did in the Office 2000 version.

1. It is more compatible with previous versions. In order to collaborate with others, compatibility with other versions and other Microsoft products is vital. Microsoft Word should be compatible with Works Word Processor and Microsoft Publisher. ALL VERSIONS.

HEY, otherwise I would be using Open Office for FREE.

2. In an office environment, a common look and feel makes training simpler. New versions would be readily accepted, and special training would not be required. So I not only spent more money one software that I don't like, my company has to develop new training guides immediately before launching distribution to my employees.

Hey, otherwise, I'd be forced to use older versions and violate the license agreement.

I'm all for new features and bug fixes... but a whole new look is really stupid... We're talking about a silly word processor and spreadsheet program here.... not a killer new GAME or iPhone thing. But for gosh sakes, FIX THE DARN BUGS.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

I know of no such satisfaction guarantee, but of course it never hurts to try contacting Dell or Microsoft, you may get lucky if you complain loudly enough.

Now I say this as someone who is using Office 2007, I would give it a little time. When I first installed it I felt the same way you did, the new layout was confusing and I had trouble doing stuff because I couldn't find the features I needed. But after a week or two I got used to the layout, and honestly if you do the same I think you will find that the new layout is actually better than the old ones, it just takes some adjustment to get used to. As for point number one that Dan made, if you need to save a file to be compatible with a prior version, simply select the right file type when saving the file.

Go back to DELL and get their LINUX box. You will be much happier with Open Office ( yes, it is Free and Open Software like the OLD Office programs ).
You can do everything a Windows box does: work productively, listen to music ( AmaroK ), or watch a movie ( I use the VLC package in Linux AND Windows )
Installing is a snap now...

Just uninstall it and go download openoffice.org 2.1, thats what I got and you can do everything else office does except without paying $200. Anyway Microsoft just gives you adware that you don't need so try this version on this website:
