I actually happens quite a bit....not usually sting on sting unless its different agencies working it, but many times, regular patrol cops will collar an undercover drug dealer and the real criminal buyers.

There are many examples of lack of communication. Neither of the examples you list is likely to ever happen. The prostitution stings would both be conducted by the same unit of the same department. Even if they forgot to inform each other, they would recognize each other. In you predator example, the officer would have NO reason to impersonate a predator because there is no reason to catch the child.

I'm sure it happens, but since police are allowed to break laws it's always ok.
