are you painting the inside or the outside? If inside, how are you using the room? Is it still going to be a garage? If so I would stick to a neutral color, ie. pale gray to light tan or beige. If you're re-purposing the space, I would pick a color that works for the new purpose. If it's the outside that you are painting, you should play off of the colors of your house. Grays, greens, yellows, blues and reds are all nice exterior colors but be careful not to go too bright. The sun intensifies color outside and you could end up with something that looks like a child's play house if you aren't careful.
I always use Benjamin Moore products when I paint. The palate is great and most of the colors are subdued and the quality is top notch. Look at the historic collection for great exterior ideas.
Keep in mind two things,
1. It's just paint. If you don't like it, you can do it again. And 2. Everything looks good with white! Don't be afraid of color.

What color is your house, or the trim on the house? Paint it to match the house, or the exact opposite
Example: house is white with blue trim, garage could be white with blue; or blue with white trim.

ALL colors match white. What other colors on your house?
What colors are the roof shingles? Stay away from very dark / bright colors.
