People usually don't give a damn about monumental dire problems that are in the future but only concerned with the "here and now" and their own hides and pocketbooks.
By THEIR VERY BEHAVIORS most really don't give a damn for their children's future and certainly not their grandchildren's future but they sure as can TALK BIG with all sorts of disengenerous pontifications about their loved one's future.
This is why of course MOST PEOPLE GET EXACTLY WHAT THEY DESERVE BUT SADLY SO DO THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANCHILDREN !!!!!!!! Hypocrites all.

I actually go to the Environmental section first. The debates there are not as interesting as immigration. Outsourcing as actually tied to immigration. And most people actually believe the war in the middle east is more important. SOme believe that ilegal immigration makes us more vulnerable for attacks by Muslim radicals, others just find the debate less interesting. Illegal immigration is on the surface of peoples mind more than others is because it's closer to home. We can see illegal immigrants, their protest is on our soil. Global warming is slow an incremental and its not so easily recognize by short term experience. Unless we have a relative or have family member, the war is distant. The destruction of the rain forest is far away and unless we lost a job, outsourcing does not feel like it effects us even though it does.
As to what I ever did, I try to organize my coworkers against the abuse of my employer. We did Unionize (Someone got the union in, but I think my employer blamed me), but I felt I didn't accomplish what was needed. I am thinking of starting a new Union after the merger of my new Employer goes through. Part of the problem I see at work is from Legal immigrants and the abuse of the H1B visa. COmpanies force the immigrants to work in abusive environment, and if they complain, they try to revoke their visas.

AMEN to that. Your guess is as good as mine, I'd like to see what you get as the answers. I know as a Mother I worry more so about these things than I do the immigration concerns. I would like for her to have a safe and healthy world to live in when she grows up. She is only 20 months old, and with the way we are going she won't have that. Maybe I just look at things differently than most other people.
To dianer up above, they are still on this planet. There will still be a global warming problem.

It is a major concern to a number of countries; not to the whole world. Global warming future effects will require governments to think of wisely using their resources and moving to the utilization of renewable energy which can be prepared for now. Poor countries will find it more difficult to survive. There can be an increase in illegal immigration to prosperous countries as a result. Illegal immigration is a matter of 'now and tomorrow' these days- it has a major impact on the available resources to the actual residents, increased violence and crimes. So, I think that countries need to cooperate to solve the problems of the world that can cause other problems for them they thought solved.

Outsourcing is just as bad as Illegal Immigration since they take away jobs from Legal Americans.
Global warming? get back to me when that is actually more than a theory. Illegal Immigration isn't just a "theory." I'm not saying Global Warming is not of concern, but most definitely not as important as illegal immigration.
The war in the middle east is already coming to a close.
Either way, are you somehow suggesting that because we are concerned with one of these issues that we are neglecting the others? nonsense.

I am concerned about global warming and I take every step I can to recycle, use efficient bulbs, turn down water heater temp, don't use a dishwasher, on and on. My greenhouse emissions are low. The Middle East has been a hotbed my entire life, I'm concerned, mostly for our soldiers, but I can't see these people changing their ways any time soon. But illegal aliens are using our resources, all of them, causing huge rifts in our society and demand things that are not theirs to have. What they do this nation will effect America for ever for future generations and I'd like the American children to inherit the country that I have so loved, just the way it should be, not as a third world country full of poverty and no educational system, hospitals, assistance, and programs that are meant to be for Americans won't be here if they stay here. So I am defnitely very concerned and anxious for America's future due to their influences. Laws need to followed and I don't want a "gimmee" kind of culture to take hold here. I also don't want gang violence to become an every day occurrence. That is not my America and hopefully not the America my grandchildren will have either!

That's what I am saying.
Global Warming is as important as Illegal Immigration.
Many don't believe that there is such a thing of global
warming. By the way. many say that illegals aliens are more
worst than Global Warming. Which I dont think thats true.

1.Because of immediate and continuing damage to the economy.... anyone and anything crossing an open border anytime... the injustice to those that enter this country legally
2. Global Warming Hype is a scam and certainly not an eminent danger... or a future one either IMHO
3. The "Middle East" is a continuing concern that needs to be dealt with... however the open border and constant flow of just anyone into this country is like fighting at the front door and leaving the back door wide open and unguarded.
4. What I personally am "doing about it" is trying to support those in and out of government that understand the situation and won't surrender our sovereignty to just anyone that whines enough... I speak out in forums like this one against the Defeatist Democrats and the Liberal Left in general.

Illegal immigration is a domestic issue, which hits home hard. Global warming, keyword "global", is a world wide issue, in which a solution and action plan amongst all countries should be implemented. Until that happens, we should concentrate and tackle our domestic issues. We should not ignore our own country's concerns by creating other excuses to avoid a growing problem.

Everybody picks their battles and some of those things you named are in every ones top 3 concerns but illegal immigration is right up there too. I would also throw in education and the easing the burden of the middle class but as you see everyone picks their own personal battles.
