I have a 94 Ford Escort I'm trying to get rid of. It's been wrecked- so the front of it isn't in the best shape - but not smashed in or anything. It doesn't have the airbag anymore (which is another question I have- is it even legal to sell a car w/o an airbag?) It has like 180,000 miles on it, but It runs fine. Very rarely gave me any problems whatsoever. So, I went to Kelley Blue Book online and it said it was worth $1,000. Then I went to Edmunds.com and it said it was worth about $300. I put the exact same info in on both sites. How can I find out how much to ask for it?

It sounds like your car is quite the piece, in all honesty, if you can get $500 for you will be doing good. If it wasn't wrecked and had air bags you could probably get a better price. I just bought a 99 Escort a few months back that had a bad engine for $250, other than that it was a nice car, bought a used engine with 20k on it and installed it with new filters, plugs, fluids, front brakes and a transmission service and still only had $900 into it. This car only had 79,000 miles on it, Escorts just aren't worth that much but it was for my daughters boyfriend so it was more then he deserved.

It's most likely to be closer to the $300 range.. 1000 was the quote off Kelly Blue book, but that was probably for a good condition exterior... I just checked KBB and under fair condition it's more like $800. So expect between $3-800. The exterior condition will weigh heavy when trying to sell.. no matter how the engine runs. That outer body work will have to be done if a dealer wishes to resell..

Plus being a American made Ford, there isn't much life left in the car before some serious overhauling would have to be done.

Well in the first place it is legal to sell a car without an airbag but the Kelly blue book doesn't actually go off your info, it takes the average price that your car with similar attribute sells for and gives it to you. Which means your car could be worth more or less, but your car is probably worth less since its missing essential safety precautions and all. If i were you i would look it up in a NADA price guide or go to www.NADAguide.com this website has always been the most reliable for me

You should probably take the first cash offer you can get over $300. The air bag issue is something you definitely should disclose to any buyer but laws may vary by state as to whether you can sell a car without an airbag.

well it sounds as if u got your use out of it. you must sell it as is and write it out that their are no airbags so they don't come try to sue you later for a $500 car. i would say your car is worth no more than $500 because of the mileage and no air bags...put it up for sale for 500 and first 350 take it and run..........

500 sounds like a good price to start with.

It would still be a decent 2nd or 3rd vehicle.
Or a great 1st car for a kid on a budget.

Myself I would not pay more than 500.00 for it.
