I am going to be PCSing in March from Germany. I was just wondering if anyone knows if the military will fly us into a location other than our base. I heard some say they will, and then you just have to pay to get from the location they fly you, to the base. Some say though that they will only fly you into your duty station. Does anyone know anything on this?

When we came back from being stationed in Italy in 2004 they flew us into Pittsburgh so we could take leave and visit family...then we drove up to Fort Drum

When we came back from Germany (3 years ago) we flew right to Fort Drum. And we went on leave from there, not sure but I think they fly you to your next duty station... When it gets closer and you are making your travel plans you can find out.

If you are pcsing they will fly you (or other transportation) to your next duty assignment. If you choose to take leave in route they will still pay you all the way to your next assignment and you are resposible for getting your transportation from home to the next assignment. When you out process Transportation department they will cover all the details with you.

you have to request a stopover, and it will be out of pocket. They won't always be able to get you to wherever you want to go, though. If there are direct AMC flights form where you leave in Germany to where you are PCSing to, they will not authorize alternate flights.

My hubby was told that he was being stationed to ft.benning. He asked if he could be taken to Ohio to visit his parents. They said they only fly him to his station. If you are going anywhere else its out of pocket. Sorry, it may be differnt there but prob not. Call Transpertation and ask.
