Teaching the child a dictionary definition of those words may help. When the child uses those words, ask her how those words apply in context. Let her know that you do not like those words and be prepared to punish if use continues.

Well soap worked pretty good for us when we were kids haha.. but.. it is not a healthy thing to do. We also got a few smacks too. There has to be things that you can take away from him. Grounding.. I will be curios to see how others respond to this one.. I never had that problem with my kids, my son when he was 3 years old... in one sentence used the 'F' word twice, he said 'it is really FN hot out here, I am really FN sweaty' as he wiped his brow. I ignored the whole thing, told my husband that night that it was time to watch our mouths, he is talking haha.. he never said it again.. I really don't know how I would have handled it at 9 years old.

soap is disgusting, and might not work. sometimes, the words might just slip out on accident because your kids hear it a lot from other kids at school. if you want to put a stop to the swearing, you might want to teach them some "subsitute" words. like instead of a*s, y can't they say 'butt' or 'behind' or something? instead of "b***h", find another word to say. like instead of "d**n", they could say 'dang', instead of "cr*p" (if u consider that a bad word) they could say 'crud'

Whatever you decide to do, don't just threaten. You need to follow through with what you tell them their punishment will be. If the kid won't stop then you haven't put the fear into him yet. He may think you won't do anything but when you finally do then he should behave.
Good Luck.

I don't understand what's bad about cussing they're just words. In middle school and in high school they're gonna cuss even if you don't let them. Believe me everyone I know cusses and most of them aren't even allowed to and there's nothing their parents can do cause they're not around. There's no point in making a rule that's not even gonna be followed.

Your children are only going to repeat what they hear. If you are saying these words around your child you cannot expect them not to say them. If you are explain to your child the word is bad and stop having your child around people that use these words

I wouldn't have even thought about talking disrespectful to my parents. I would've gotten the belt. I spared the rod when it came to language, but I did use foods they didn't like. Hot sauce? Sardines? If they knew they would have to eat something gross or distasteful, they thought twice about saying those words around me! (It worked)
As an adult with my coworkers, I tell everybody beforehand that it offends me. (It's also called "workplace harassment".)

Be firm with your kids, but not harsh. This may sound confusing, but I'll try to explain it better.
If you punish them everytime they say the word, they may eventually be used to it & just use it as an excuse to curse and you & "rebel" more.
Tell your kids that these words are impolite and that they need to respect other peoples' feelings. Speak to them rationally at first, but if they continue to curse at other children, you have to punish them.
Finally, try to find the source of their cursing and block it off. If it's television, use parental block. If it's the internet, block certain websites.
Good luck!

this may sound bad my 12 month old likes to repeats ive heard him say eggs and he say yes perfectly to a t and the other day he turned around to daddy and said dumb A ss....i couldnt help but laugh
FOR ANOTHER DO YOU SAY IT AROUND YOUR KIDS...because if you do there will be no hope and they will keep saying it. if you want them to stop you have to stop..i tell people around me to stop swearing while they are in my house or anround my son. if they dont like it they can leave

My mom gave me the look, so i knew not to say it again, my aunt used the soap method, so i knew not to say words that were bad around her, and my grandma, beat me, so i was always afraid to talk around her because all the words to her in this day in age was a bad word. words like "suck'. The point is, your kids will say them regardless, just make sure you get them not to say them around you, there granny and there aunt fae......:)
