Put it in the bed every night and hide next to the door. When the kitten trys to escape put it back in the bed until it gets to tired to do it again. Also do this before your bedtime so you do not miss sleep. in a few days your kitten will be trained. Also with the counters take them off every time they atempt to jump. When you kitten grows older if it still does it yell at it or lure it off with something it likes such as a favorite toy. Ps: When the kitten looks up at the counter while sitting under it it is gettin ready to jump. And if the kitten lies on the couch take it of and when it gets older you can shove it off. Hope this helps. It worked with my cats and you will not belive how many cats I have owned and trained!

If you can't deal with these issues you shouldn't get a kitten. They cannot be "trained" to stay off couches or to "go to their bed" as a dog can. The attractive kitty beds you spend $30 for in a pet store are not attractive to a cat or kitten. They always choose their own places to rest and sleep.
The countertop issue is the ONLY instance I would use a spray bottle for. Even that I prefer to keep the countertops cleared off, food returned to the refrigerator and plates rinsed after meals so there is nothing attractive about the counters.
Don't make an "issue" of it. It's actually wonderful to behold a cat jump up three times his height and land softly on a counter without touching anything on it.
I invested $100 in a really high cat tree over thirteen years ago. Cats love to be up high. Mine looks a little ratty now as it is also a favorite scratching post and the cats consider it their own special piece of furniture. I usually have three cats "sharing" my couch with me at night when they all get some brushing and combing and we watch TV together.

Well, as far as countertops go, just never let the kitten up there and they should stay away. If it does start to hop up there then shoo it away, or a SOFT tap on the nose and putting her back on the floor may teach her. My mother-in-law keeps a water bottle around and when the cats do something they shouldn't be she gives them a spritz. You will have a hard time with the couch, cats like to lounge everywhere. Try picking up a cat bed with cat nip in it. Or put a pet blanket on the couch and maybe it will just stay on the blanket. Good Luck and remember get your cat spayed or nuetered. Male cats will spray and it stinks really bad and female cats go crazy and might go out side and come back knocked up.

I love cats! To get the kitten to sleep in the bed ...everytime it gets ready to lay down put it in the bed. Keep doing this until they learn that this is where you are supposed to sleep. As for the countertops, my mother would say take a squirt bottle and spritz the kitty everytime it get on the couter. I just like to take the kitty down and say no. It works for me. Good luck with the new kitten!

Wear an old t-shirt for a couple of days and put it in the kitty bed. Don't wash it. It will smell like you and be comforting to the kitten. To keep it off the counter, get a squirt gun. They are handy to train cats to keep away and off things.

Cats rarely sleep in the beds we buy, they prefer something soft, so if you have a fluffy bath towel or blanket you can fold up, stick it on the end of the couch so they'll go onto that instead of the rest of the furniture.
It's almost impossible to keep them off things they can jump to. Yelling rarely trains them, you have to use patience and positive rewards to get a cat to do something. But if there's something dangerous they should NOT be on--like the top of an aquarium or up on top a 6' tall book case, you can lay packing tape strips --- 2" wide clear tape --- sticky side up on those things. Don't use duct tape, it should be the clear tape, that comes off easy. Keep some 10" long strips on top of things they should stay off of, sticky side up. They'll learn those are off limits.

There isn't really a set way that you can teach a kitten to sleep somewhere, simply put, if they dont want to sleep there they won't. The trick is to trick them into thinking that they want to sleep there. First of all it has to be really comphy, also you can sprinkle a tiny bit of cat nip. Also, if you see a specific spot where your kitten likes to sleep, put the bed there. Once the kitten gets used to sleeping in the bed, then you can move it to different places.
Good luck!

u just show them who's the boss and the cat will learn his limits and what not to do or can do if ur cat gets up on the countertops then just say get down and shoo them away and say no notty and if u want them to get in a kitty bed u have to show them how to get in it and put them in it and play around in it with them so they get use to it but it may take a while to get use to it so be patient
=) hope this helps!

My cat flinched everytime I would spray him (water would work)with this cat stuff. You had to shake it up first,so after awhile ,he started flinching or running everytime I would shake the bottle ,so now anytime I shake something up ,he freaks.Spray him with water when he's in trouble so that after awhile he knows the consequences for his actions.
