A factory deck can sometimes still play if there's no power on the constant power wire; an after-market deck can't. If your factory radio won't hold radio stations or clock settings with the key off, then the constant power fuse is probably blown. It may not be labeled as a radio fuse in the vehicle fuse box; check the dome light or cig lighter fuse.

After-market decks are also more sensitive to speaker or speaker wiring problems. If your after-market deck will power up but won't produce sound, you may have a blown speaker or a shorted speaker wire.

If both the stock stereo works in the car and the aftermarket works in a different car then you are wiring it wrong.

check the wires on the harness adapter, or if you don't have noe, get one.
