1] read up on Joann's online - find out about stores, services,
history, anything that sounds like homework! You will sound knowledgable and enthusiastic.
2] NO DENIM ever at interviews, unless you are working construction.
3] wear a pair of nice slacks or skirt, jacket, and top with no pictures, bare shoulders, cleavage, or nipples! [ no screened Ts, camisoles, halters, tube tops, or braless! ] A fitted T,
tank top, or pretty blouse all work well.
Wear closed toe pumps, flats,or wedges.
A pair of earrings or necklace would be good - avoid bracelets or rings that catch in a fabric store. [ make sure watch doesn't either! ]
Hair should be clean, weel grromed, and appropriate for age - no pigtails etc.
Makeup should also be appropriate for age - mascara, blush, lipcolor in natural looking shades.
Wear lots of deodorant - put some on palms of your hands -
they won't get as sweaty for shaking hands.
Brush teeth, mouthwash, of course.
Nails should be clean and well groomed.
3] Smile at customer service - " Hi, I'm Suzie Snowflake. I have an interview with Ms. Strawberry Shortcake. Can you let her know I am here, please?"
Smile and shake hands with Ms. Shortcake, too.
4] go to:
acing the interview at
jobsearch.about.com
Good luck!

You're very young and this is your first real job. The interviewer will know that. They won't expect you to come in and WOW them. Remember that and don't stress yourself out.

Here are a few things that might help:

-Be on time (5 - 10 minutes is okay, late is a BIG problem)
-Dress simply and neatly. Wear something that doesn't bare too much skin. Avoid mini skirts, shorts shorts, bare arms, loud prints. I'd go for something like a simple black, blue, khaki, dark denim skirt (at or near knee length). Choose a simple top in a color that flatters your skin tone (cotton t-shirt, tank, blouse). If you wear a tank or shell, wear a lightweight cardigan or jacket to help make your look more job appropriate. Whatever you wear should be clean, pressed and in good condition (no holes, tears, stains, etc)

- The interviewer will probably ask about your skill set: what can you do? are you good at organizing, talking with people, do you sew, enjoy decorating, follow fashion? These are the kinds of things that would be good to mention. Have you worked somewhere else, volunteered for a local group? Tell them about it and what you did, what you learned in that position.

-If you don't know something, don't be afraid to say you're not familiar with it. Be sure to tell the interviewer you're a fast learner and you're sure you can learn the new skill. Don't lie about your skill set...they'll surely find you out!

-If you are meeting with a particular person, make sure you have their name before you get there. I would report to the customer service counter (be early) and tell them you have an appointment. If you don't know who you're meeting, consider calling ahead and asking for the name and/or title of your interviewer.

-You say you're shy so I'll remind you to look the interviewer in the eye when you meet and while you're talking. Don't forget to smile, be responsive during the meeting, give them the impression that you are listening and understanding. Be sure you give a firm handshake - that always makes a positive impression. Remember, they don't know you. You can pretend to be a lot more confident and upbeat than you feel...they won't know your secret!

Good luck...

They will expect you to be poised and answer their questions. Answer honestly and be yourself, this is your first job so they shouldn't ask you anything that you are not able to answer, dress nicely but not overdressed wear like a nice pair of slacks/skirt and a blouse do not wear anything sleeveless or a skirt that is more than an inch above the knee, wear dress shoes that have a closed toe. When you get there just go to the customer service desk and they'll them you have an interview at (? time) and they will let the person know. I know it is hard not to be nervous, but just remember this person is no better than you are and they are also human and if it doesn't work out there will be something else. Do not lie and be as honest as you can and answer all of the questions that they ask you to the best of your ability, that's all you can do, be courteous and say yes ma'am'/sir, no ma'am'/sir, use proper grammar and speak clearly, never call an interviewer by their first name even if they tell you to, if you know their last name you should address them using that, if not use ma'am/sir

Good luck!! I hope you get it

You will do fine, if this is for a craft store, retail, I would dress in business attire, don't wear too much makeup. You should expect to answer questions pertaining to any experience that is relevant, volunteer work you have done, perhaps some questions about classes of interest you are taking at high school.

You may be asked what your weaknesses and strengths are. Also your ability to work independently and with a team. When you arrive go to the customer service desk and request to speak with the manager or person who you have the interview with. And remember you have to talk about yourself, that is the whole point of the interview, so you have to put your shyness away for this! Good Luck!

My oldest daughter is suffering from the same event. Here what you do – first relax, it’s not the serious. Second – dress for success, respectfully cloths and ask - What will I need to wear when I start? It’s good if you can lead the conversation, but some employees are push and like to do all the talking (have about 15 minutes of conversation really just in case). You can ask about their business – Like when is it the busiest? Know how to count change back to customers, or at least understand the concept (any people freeze when asked). Most likely the customer service desk can direct you to the person doing the interview. Remember – relax. Good luck (not that you’ll need it – you’re confident and prepared)!

Dress professionally! make sure you look neat and tidy (don't forget polished shoes). If you have a nose ring or some other type of piercing (other than ear) then remove them. Remember you will be interacting with customers and representing the company. You should do research on the company via the web, so you know its background and what they sell...very important to know their products. When you get to the store, go to the customer service desk and ask for the manager.
DO NOT GET THEIR LATE! not only is this bad (really bad) but it will also make you nervous and flustered. Get their EARLY...say half an hour early so you can gather your thoughts and have a breather before going into the store.

Do NOT act shy or you will not get the job. Remember they need someone with confidence, as you will be interacting with customers.
GOOD LUCK! oh...working in retail will help you get over your shyness

first calm down! Joann's is a wonderful place to work. with the interview you ll be asked simple questions like if a customer came to you and asked for help with an item you didn't know about what would you say? and at Joann's they will probably ask you if you have any crafts you re good at........however you don't have to be good at anything to work their so don't just freek out and make something up! but any ways as for what to wear ..... you can wear a pair of black slacks with a nice blouse and nice looking black shoes......if you don't have that just wear the nicest thing you have in the closet ........ make sure you have visible tattoos (i know your 16 but i knew some 16 year old's with them) no more then 4 pieces of jewelry for example 1 ring 1 bracelet 1 necklace 1 set of earrings and for where you go just find any associate and tell them you are there for an interview they will point you in the right direction.. most of all when you go for your interview relax as best you can and maybe pretend that the interviewer is some one you already know like some one your comfortable with talking to already

i am a shy person too and my first interview wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be...... i haven't worked at Joann's but i have worked in retail and shy and retail dose not seem to mix well but eventually since you have to talk to people to keep your job you will eventually not be so shy any more....
i hope i helped you some i know interviews seem scary but you'll make it so good luck with your interview though i hope you get the job so you can have that spending money! before you have bills to pay like me...........lol

Never had an interview, but my sister has and I remember helping her out and her telling me about it.

Wear something that's appropriate to the job, if you are expected to dress quite smart, wear black trousers and a top. If its more casual, maybe you could wear jeans.

Visit the place beforehand, to see what the staff wear, what kind of things go on, the kind of atmosphere etc.

Get some background information on the company, it will make you seem more confident and clever about the place if an opportunity to use the information comes up. Use the Internet or something.

Go early, be polite, be optimistic and stay calm.

Hope it helped. =)

There's all kinds of websites that have sample interview questions. Just practice answering them out loud so you won't be so nervous. Wear something neat, wouldn't go as far as a dress, maybe a skirt or nice pants, etc. Ask the first person you see when you go in - say like hi I'm here for an interview, where am I going? lol...and good luck!

In job interviews you should be yourself, feel comfortable because you don't need to pretend. don't wear any perfume and wear light colored clothes. if you get nervous try not to show your hands hide them under the table or hold a pen, the questions may vary but often they ask what your plans to the future are and what you expect working for their company. Be honest when answering the questions. I know it suc..s but the ask what is your worst flaw if so don't say a quality as perfeccionism, say for example: I'm a little shy. Good luck!
