My Chiwawa just had her first cycle for the year. As it started she had a small limp. As the days went by with her cycle, the limp has gotten worse and now she can barely stand on it. Is this something that I checked out?

First, they are chihuahuas. Second, they don't have menstrual cycles - they have heat cycles, which indicate when they are fertile, as opposed to human women that are shedding their uterine lining - totally different. And yes, a limp should be looked at by a vet - a limp is not normal, for a dog in heat or not. Chihuahuas are little and fragile and can be injured easily. And get her spayed so no more heat cycles.

Your Chihuahua's heat cycle has nothing to do with a limp. Chihuahuas are prone to patella problems so that could be what is going on. It could also be an injury of some sort especially she jumps up and down off the furniture. Only your vet can tell for sure but this sounds fairly serious and it needs to checked out. While you are there, you can make an appt to have her spayed.

Yes you should take her to the vet to be checked out and they can spay her! ( It is healthier for her.)
