Maybe your friends were not producing. Maybe your friends were drinking on the job. How would we know, I am sure you will get a lot of generalizations, but only people who were actually there would know the truth. Ask you boss why and post the answer here.

Simple economics! The illegals cost less than you and your friends, will work for half the cost and require no insurance. The problem here is, your boss is doing something very illegal and should be turned in. Your buddies that were laid off, can collect, if they were being paid by check and it was all on the up and up. If not, you have difficulty in doing this. Either way, the boss is going to go down.
He deserves to go down too. How many other Americans that are legal, does this happen to on a daily basis? Quite a few. Which is why we are having so many problems in this Great Country of ours.

I agree with the previous poster that your boss is greedy. What he's doing is against the law:

Every nation in this world has illegal aliens. I'm sure Thailand, Brazil and Mexico have illegal aliens. The reason why the US has the most illegals is simply because of its economy! The largest in the world, at least 2 1/2 times the size of the second biggest Japan.
According to goverment figures the unemployment rate in the US is what about 4%. This figures represent legal residents I would suppose. I believe that every industrilized nation in this world would desire such an unemployment figure like that including China which is growing a 9-10 % rate because of thier tremendous population. They can't grow fast enoungh to provide employment to everybody.
One of the reasons why this economy continues to grow is because of its ever growing consumer base. More people buying more stuff. More houses, refrigerators, computers, blue jeans and ice cream. Guess what illegals are; Consumers. Believe it or not they contribute to the economic growth of this developed economy to keep the unemployment rate where its at. If population growth suddenly stops or is slowed down drastically by draconian immigration laws we will become like one of those stagnant developed (industrilized) economies of Western Europe or Japan. Then you will be unemployed for a different reason.

It is NOT the illegals who are taking jobs away and depressing wage rates but THE WEALTHY CORPORATIONS,FARMERS and millions of ordinary Americans who have been allowed TO BREAK THE BLOODY LAW WITH IMPUNITY BECAUSE THEY WERE/ARE LOOKING FOR CHEAP CHEAP LABOUR COSTS AND THE UN-PROTECTED ILLEGALS HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO WORK FOR THESE SLAVE RATES.

That is something you would have to ask your boss for the answer to. I'm just gonna take a stab at the possibility that they were much cheaper hourly than you and your friends...but who knows? There really is no valid reason he can give you for breaking the law and depriving you of your hours.

Because they are cheap. If I were you, I'd go to the cops, or ICE and let them know. I'm glad you took the legal route. Amazingly, even though I'm anti-illegal immigration, I'm not a racist, so I hope you find another job.

Your boss wants to make money too. That's all they think about. These guys don't care that you have a familym or that they were your friends. It's the almighty dollar that they have on their mind. They wouldn't be taking your jobs, if people weren't not so greedy and self absorbed. That is the way it is in America.
