Sucks, huh? I'm just one woman but I do my best to speak up for what I believe Christianity really is. I'm sick of the judgmental legalistic ones getting all the spotlight. There are so many free thinking, open minded Christians out there.
If I claim to be a liberal and/or progressive Christian on this board, there's always some atheist who says that's an oxymoron. Means I just have to speak louder.
I am almost thankful for Chosen by God 777 (almost) for bringing to light that I am not like the fundamentalists. I am a strong, independent woman who knows how to think critically about her faith.

I think the paradox of it is that "real" christians and "real"muslims and "real" people generally are not obsessed with religion - it forms a part of their everyday lives.
I've also noticed the same thing on YA (as you put in your question) - and to be honest it kind of annoys me. But when it comes down to it, I don't have the stamina or the focus (to put it kindly) to keep on repeating the same thing over and over and over again. Whereas a "fundamentalist" of any kind is kind of obsessed with how right their belief is, and is quite happy to repeat the same answer 50 times. I like to think (perhaps wrongly) that life and religion is about more than debating theological issues. I think it's how you live your life - and I would be failing at my own belief if I sat here 24 hours a day debating religious issues.
If it helps at all, I think the fundamentalist atheists present just as bad an image of atheists as the fundamental christians do of christianity. I think closed-mind people of whatever persuasion generally present a bad impression of their chosen belief to people who require a more open-minded and intellectual debate of theological issues.

Do you even know what a fundamentalist is? It is one who holds to the fundamentals or basic tenets of their faith. That is all. I know some have created a boogy man out of fundamentalists, like we are some sort of strange monsters who breathe fire and eat children, this is simply a smokescreen. simply another way to deride Christ and the Christian faith.
All the writers of the New Testament were fundamentalists, as were the reformers and their students, Calvin, Luther, Knox, Zwingli, Huss, Edwards, Spurgeon and Moody. I think we are in pretty good company.

"What we're seeing, however, is that Secular Progressives are doing their utmost to bring America down. They want us to lose the war in Iraq, for instance, just to prove that our President was wrong."
The fundie herd mentality and knee-jerk defensive mechanisms on display again! In case you haven't noticed, the "war" in Iraq was lost before it began. W's father recognized that and had the good sense to avoid it. However, W, with his desire to do Dad one better, his crusader mindset, and an army of volunteers to slaughter to fulfill his childlike dreams of generalship, managed to shepherd his flock right into a quagmire. How sad the dodger didn't learn anything from Vietnam, Afghanistan (USSR experience), Somalia, and any of dozens of recent misadventures. Pathetic, really.
We don't have to prove the President wrong. He does that every day in every way.

Apologies to R&S...

I don't believe you are, but it almost seems like you are saying that fundamentalists in America shouldn't have the right to vote.
And I'm almost positive that that is exactly what gorgeoustxwoman believes.

The answer is quite simple, there are very few real Christians. If this nation had as many real Christians as is claimed, we wouldn't have abortion, the IRS, liberal democrats, homosexual preachers, insane public schools, and so forth. But the sad fact is that true Christianity is an extremely small minority in this country.

How funny.
Most the time we are accused of being hypocrites for speaking out for what the Bible calls right.
No we are being called hypocrites for not speaking out for what the Bible calls right.
But wisdom is justified by all her children.
I am sure that if Jesus came back in the clouds with a thunder that shook the whole earth, people would start immediately to formulate a scientific explanation for this mass delusion. ROFL.

Basically and with all due respect, you don't know what you're talking about.
The body of Christian believers in America (not Amerika, because as you can see, we can actually spell!) for the most part, work hard for a strong and healthy country.
What we're seeing, however, is that Secular Progressives are doing their utmost to bring America down. They want us to lose the war in Iraq, for instance, just to prove that our President was wrong.
Christians want the strong America that our forefathers gave us. The fact that you make the word "fundamentalist" sound like a four-letter explitive, just shows your ignorance of what is really happening in this country.
Get a clue, dear fellow American!

I'm working hard for my part here on Answers. Admittedly - it's a tight squeeze - but I figure one question at a time and I'll call em out!
(ps...I am also working on the Christian stereotypes from those of other beliefs)
:D

Nice question. But without an answer. I mean it's easy to be a critic! I don't like this, I don't like that. It is more difficult to say I don't like this and this is what should be done about it, and "this" is what I'm doing! As Christians should we arm ourselves and blast away at fundamentalists, should we spit on them as we walk by, should we deny their existence? Don't just complain, create!
