I chop both, and add the green usually after cooking... tor texture and color more than for taste.

Cut off the little roots at the end and throw away that part of it. Also, don't use the very top of the greens (the last 1/4 or 1/2 inch) and dispose of any of the green part which has gotten mushy.

when i do a recipe that calls for chopped green onion....i usually do most of the "green" part and a lil bit of onion...it all tastes pretty much the same, just with a different tecture!

It's more of a personal preference ... the green isn't as "hot" as the white part ... if you want more of an onion flavor, use all of it. I prefer just the green when using in salads, but if the onion will be cooked, I use it all.

It would say chopped green onion tops if that is all they wanted added.Just use the onion where it says onion only.Good question.

as the others have said ,"all of it ". I love throwing the chopped onions into any kind of curry ,or stir fry, or even good old mince but with lots of other seasonings .But I'm sure you know that anyway . What times dinner ?

Most people use the whole onion. If you prefer one part to the other, you may do it that way also.

I usually use both, but the white part is usually more "oniony" so use depending on your taste. Also, if cooking, you may want to saute the white parts longer since they are firmer and will not wilt as easily as the green parts.

All of it. Unless the recipe actually calls for the green part then use all of the onion.
