A recent question made me remeber this question of mine asked nearly a year ago, so I thought I'd ask it again and see how many tackle it...

Have you ever heard of the concept of freezing people with a terminal illness and then bringing them back after the cure is found? I know it's more fiction than science, but for this question, let's all presume it's possible.

If you are frozen for say... a decade. They find the cure, bring you back, and fix you up. Are you 10 years older? I mean physically and mentally you wouldn't have aged, right? But, your birth certificate would still be the same, so legally would you be 10 years older? If so, what if you were 16 when you were frozen. Technically, you'd be 26, but would you be allowed to drink, vote, etc.?

Now for the real deep thinkers... what would happen to your soul during that 10 years?

Impress me and I'll give you best answer and thumbs up 10 of your other answers (if you have that many) for a total of 20 points!

Well, okay, thanks to all who took the time to answer. I can see 20 is probably all I am going to get this time around... so here's my take...

I thought some of the best answers came from 'I never wander', 'coastcowboy', 'pestie58', and 'aspen dreamer'.

In fact, I'd say Aspen gets runner up, and I'll be sure to shoot her an extra ten points from thumbs ups. And yes, Aspen, I was surprised how many people didn't even believe in a soul. All I can say is that's a risky belief to go by. I personally have put my soul's trust in the saving grace and blood of my savior Jesus Christ.

So who did I think did the best job of tackling both aspects of my question...

I agree with you, yes it is more fictional than science...
However, since you have stated that for the purpose of the question, it could be done, I'll give it a go.

If you are frozen at say, 16, I'm guessing you would be correct in all aspects saying that you wouldn't age physically or mentally, but you would still be 10 years older.
I think, given that you would TECHNICALLY be 26, you still would not be able to do any of the priveleges that are given to those 18+. I say this because while you may be considered 26, society and the government bases what you can do, IE drink, vote, etc... on your mentality level, and maturity level. As you will not have aged mentally, you most likely would not be given those rights.

As for your soul, I don't believe it would make a world of difference. You know (or so I BELIEVE) that when you die, your soul lives on until it has done whatever it is that you were intended to do here on earth, until it reaches the point that it is ready to cross over. Therefore, even in a frozen state, it would be for those 10 years like you were dead, and your sould could roam. I assume you've heard of the silver cord, the cord that a body and soul has connecting them? The cord is only severed if you die, and since you really wouldn't be dead, as soon as you are woke up, or brought around, however you would say it, your soul would come right back to you.

Hope I gave some insight.

Seeing it's pretend.
If you where frozen somehow in away where you where still alive then revived then even if the ageing process was suspended then you would still be 10 years older.
Although I feel if this process was possible then the governments would have to make laws governing it.
Example if frozen at 10 years old revived at 20 you may be legally 20 but could you drive a car with the mind or body of a 10 year old.
Genesis 2:7 says man is a soul then the man being a soul is frozen as they are not separate

I want to be frozen and healed!!!!!!!!!!!

This is how it will happen:

When I die--

The deceased is placed in a casket made from maize starch or potato starch, and is speedily frozen to 196 degrees Celcius below zero in liquid nitrogen.
By this treatment, the body becomes very brittle and spontaneously decomposes at a light vibration into a fine organic powder, which is subsequently steamed in a vacuum chamber.
What then remains is about 30 kilos of freeze-dried powder, which in the next step is buried at 40 centimeters' depth in a cemetary. There it will quickly be broken down by the worms and microbes of the earth, and becomes nutrition for the plants which relatives can have planted on the ground above.

The process of decomposition takes about six months.

When I go to Jesus in heaven I will be healed and completely restored instantly!

Time will no longer exist and age will not matter.

Revelation 10: 6, "...that there should be time no longer: "

Well, I think the soul would leave the body upon being frozen but a new soul would come back upon being unfrozen.

I think you would stay the same age and rightly so, because no growth would have occurred during the frozen period. If you were 16, you would still be sixteen in every way. And so no drinking or voting.

I hope this never happens though, because the earth is way over populated already, and death as bad as it is, is a part of the survival system.

You make 'man' to be 'god' if you believe it will work. God is the healer, no one else. And healing is received only through His son, Yahshua.
Joh 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
But, to play out your scenario, it goes like this....
At death(which, being frozen, is death), the spirit returns to God, the soul and body are frozen(just as if they went into the tomb) to await its resurrection. It would not have an 'age' because that was broken by death. The soul remains within the body. It would be the same if, for example, a mountain climber reached the frozen heights and died there. Same difference.

1) just because your bio-clock stops all the others don't so you would indeed be 26 years old.
2) your 'soul', I suppose, would remain intact. Just because the electro-chemical processes in your brain slowed to a halt due to deep freeze it seems reasonable you would pick-up where you left off when thawed.
3) if you a religious person then you must believe that God decides when you live or die so He would know your future, therefore a temporary halt in higher brain function would be part of his overall plan -- unless of course you're NOT religious and you don't believe in a soul or afterlife.
Then I don't know what the heck happens.

Sure is a lot of pessimists here and people going to visit the devil when dead...
Too bad...

I believe as long as you are alive, your soul is yours and it stays alive as long as you do...

I believe in what happens in the movie "GHOST" where a person dies, and if they were good and believed in GOD, they will go to Heaven, and if they were bad and did not believe, they will go to Hell...

I want to point out that when you are in a coma you are still alive...
If you are asleep you are still alive...
When you are sedated under surgery, you are still alive...
All these things have a passage of time and the time interval is the same as if you were awake...
It doesn't seem like it when you are in a coma or asleep or sedated, because you don't notice the passage of time when you awaken...

However, if I were frozen at my age, and they cured me of my back and leg pain in 10 years and woke me then, I would be retirement age and still unable to work, as I would have been out of work way too long to be of use to anyone...
I am currently out of work being disabled 5 years, so then freeze me and bring me back in 10 years, I will be 15 years out of work...
Even well and cured, I could not work because of my age and being out of work so long...

I would still have my soul because I never died, because only GOD can bring man back to life, man cannot bring man back to life...
Read your Bible folks...
If mankind could bring back the dead, wouldn't we all have our loved ones with us now that passed on earlier in life???
Well I sure would...

well I'd say you are 10 years older, but a whole new set of policy would have to be written as far as the drinking/voting goes.

Assuming that the freezing process does nothing to age/damage your body.

As far as the soul, I would say it continues on. We have no concept of eternity and our souls exist in eternity. So whether the body is frozen would have no effect on the soul.

how deep is that for "off the cuff"?

:D

Perhaps one is aware when frozen, and it's just 10 years of mind destroying sensory deprivation in a prison.
