Unless their is a will to disarm with EVERY party involved, you are not going to achieve much i believe....
Fear,is what makes a lot of nations arm themselves, and quite understandably no nation will disarm if it cannot 100% be certain that other nations are doing the same......that is pure common sense.....everyone gets rid of nukes, except one nation that hides a 100 warheads....that nation can hold the world to ransom.
I admire, that you have been petitioning and demonstrating.....but ive been on the frontline of some of these conflicts and it really does sadden me,that their were some people who could NEVER be reasoned with, and would only back off from attempting a atrocity, when threatened with violence themselves...........please believe me,when you have to point an assault rifle at another humans face to force them not to attempt to rape a child in front of you, until you have experienced that, you can never appreciate how sick and twisted things can be.

Well lets just all lay down our weapons and walk away then the people that don't want to give em up can just pick em up and shoot ya with them then you have no issue. Oh and i might add at this point why don't you go into the kitchen and clean out all the forks, and knives first. And after that go to your desk and get ride of all the pencils and pens and letter openers. burn down all the trees and bushes and burn the wood fram homes and build out of rock and then while your at it try to figure out what were gonna do with all the bricks and hand sized rocks. Gee First air to air combat object was bricks dropped at each other .......... with all the weapons availible to folks today where do you start and where do you end even your car is a deadly weapon. Have a coke and a smile and find something a little more reachable to spend your time on. Like giving people back there rights.

Without weapons man would have become extinct and nuclear weapons have most probably being the main factor in keeping the super powers away from each others throats.Weapons often maintain the balance of world power as opposed to sheer force of numbers. You need to ask what would happen without them.

I think mass public outrage works great. No matter how dominating a government is, they all havta bow their heads before the public coz their political futures are all in the hands of the public. So getting mass support for your activities is really gonna boost your case.
And this is where the problem lies. Almost 55-60% ppl in every country side with the decisions of the politicians and a minority oppose them.
I would recommend you to keep up the good work. It will take time for the results to show, but there is always a silver lining in a dark cloud.
Be positive and best of luck in your endeavor. :-)

Sometimes I think about that too. World would be a much safer place without these nukes. But the problem is that once these weapons are created, it's not easy to destroy them. I believe you can store them somewhere, but you can't kill it. It's because of radiation.
But nothing would work now to stop creation of more weapons because it has become a symbol of power. Every country wants to secure its borders by declaring that they have weapons. I believe it's because of what happened to Japan...every one is sacred to death. It's a wrong approach to this problem.
See few years ago when USA asked other countries to stop with the production of N. weapons, those countries asked USA to stop making more and USA refused. There has to be a mutual understanding.
But in ourlife times, it's just dream to see world without weapons.

Weapons...any or all of them, are part of our world only because there is distrust, acrimony and fear in people and in their governments. The only path to removing weapons from the world, is through the elimination of these inherently human traits, which as you know is very difficult.
The far easier path is to build weapons for a supposed protection, than to resolve the differences between a countries and it's people. So to remove weapons you must directly attack the fundamental issues that cause us to feel we need weapons rather than mutual understanding.

All you can do is set a good example yourself - by not having ANY weapons of your own, and spreading the word. Others aroud you will (hopefully) start doing the same, and it will spread quickly!
Unfortunately, it will NEVER get anywhere close to making an ACTUAL difference - as weapons are ALWAYS effective at getting those willing to use them whatever it is they want :(:(

I think what you meant to ask was "how do you stop future wars?" If you get rid of weapons, you don't stop wars, you encourage them, because evil dictators know that you can't fight back.
Since World War II, non-soviet Europe has been mostly war-free, a task that was considered impossible. If you truly want to get rid of war (not weapons), research the Marshall plan. That's how the US stopped war in Europe.
