There is film that forms within the feeder. I have 4 feeders out. Three are in sunlight in the morning, one is clear plastic and the other two are red plastic. The 4th is clear glass and is in the shade all day. All 4 have this film. I have been able to remove it with a brush but now the brush is shot and I cannot locate another like it. This film looks weird and just putting something into the container and shaking it does not remove it.

The only thing that will really work is a brush. You can get them at most wild bird stores, or other stores that sell hummingbird feeders. Or you can get them online - for example: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=16325&N=2005+113595 or here http://www.rachelsrobin.com/shop/bird-feeder-cleaning.php?ps_session=214a62ff5a4c9dba7bd58443cde953ac

Take a stick a Popsicle stick or long screw driver an (my favorite) duct tape a CLEAN cloth old tee shirt or boy some Cotton and use that when it gets dirty change cloth feeders do that and most of the time if you move them to the shade they get less use. Did you know the higher up you put them the more birds you get, but you get a neck ache watching the birds

I use a bottle brush and liquid detergent. Be sure to rinse well afterwards. You can also sterilize with Clorox, but then you must thoroughly rinse all remnants of it away. Humming birds aren't fond of Clorox, surprise, surprise!
