Spanish people first eat the salad and then the meat, I don´t like it; I like to have everything on the same plate as you although I´ve become used to it more or less...if you want everything on the same plate ask for a "plato combinado"...
PSII´ve been visiting on a very regular basis/living in Spain for over 15 years (Spanish husband)...
BTW What I find even stranger is that the first course can be spaghetti with meatballs and the second course meat!!! Didn´t we just have meat?? Also I was less to pleased to find out that most Spanish famlies just share a big plate of salad in the centre of the table without serving it on a plate...

Yes it's because we would eat the salad as a starter and then move on to the meat dish with some negro patatas. It's spanish culture. Although we do eat the hot and cold on the same plate. It depends how you were brought up.

I'm Spaniard and am used to eat my salad of lettuce and my steak, roast meat at the same time. Perhaps the people were looking at you for other reasons. Anyway it does not matter. You know the people are very curious a lot of times and it's better if you don't pay attention to the people who is glaring you.
In a second thought probably a load of persons eat their hot food and hot separately and perhaps it can be a bit weird for them.
I hope you understand me and please I apologise for my grammar mistakes. And you should eat like you wish to do it

That is very strange I have not really run into that. I am Puerto Rican and we eat a ton of stuff cold and hot together. I suppose its a cultural thing perhaps.
