Most likley no. If you were licenced in the UK you have a CAA PPL. In the US they will only hire to you if you have an FAA PPL.

You'll need to pass a checkride but you should be able to hire an aircraft with no trouble. We have several folks with foreign licenses where I work and none of them have had any trouble at all with the local FBOs. Clear your checkride and have enough recent hours to be current under FAA standards and you're good to go.
