My question is this: is the following your way of praying, or are you loud so those around you will know how pious you are?
"When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him . . . Matt. 6:6-8 and 7:7-8).

I pray in a humble way. I do not do as the hypocrites do.

Religion is a social Identity, if you only prayed alone when no one could see you, how would people know? It also goes along with wearing a cross, telling people you have prayed about something (or praying for them), and born again hair.
Not to go light on atheist. We have our own identities. Darwin fish etc.
BTW way I came to this conclusion while watching a live debate about wither God was necessary for Morales. You have Baptist on one side of the stage and Atheist on the other. The visual distinction in clothes, hairstyles, and mannerism were opposite, it made me realize this isn't really about religion as much as social identity.
On a side note, is there some prayer competition? Because Pat Robertson sure squints a whole lot when he is praying...does that send the prayer to the top of the line or something?

Actually, I try to pray the way Jesus commanded. I don't even like the idea of praying out loud at restaurants. I think if we all pray quietly to ourselves, that's enough.
And out of deference to my non-Christian husband, I pray quietly, away from him.

Religion is supposed to be a private, personal thing. The Xtians who keep it that way are the ones I respect. The others are asking for contempt and mocking.
