Go for the eggplant color. It's your house - not your neighbors. :)
If you don't like it, simply paint it again.
Green would work great. It is opposite purple on the color wheel - which means it will work with the window covering. Plus it will stand out against the light colored brick.
One other option is to put blinds over the window, so that the window covering isn't seen from outside.
Hope this helps. :)

I was going to say red but I won't. The eggplant color sounds very nice. Just because a neighbor says it does'nt look nice does'nt mean you can't paint it that color.. I think it would look very nice. The bronze color I'm not sure about because it will probably look too orange so I would go with the eggplant.
Hope I helped

burnished bronze is not too orange. they are probably thinking of shiny new copper or bronze. on the show 'curb appeal' i saw the designer use a front door with an old world look but it was clean and neat and all the bypassers said it looked classy and one even said it looked stately. i love muted eggplant. i would suggest make certain your shade of eggplant has a lot of dark EARTHY gray undertones to it.

here are a few Benjamin Moore colours to look at, they are all very close in colour you will just have to hold them up to see which best suits your door, and the light it recieves etc.
desert shadow 2114-30
amazon soil 2115-30
incense stick 2115-20
vintage wine 2116-20
they pick up on the eggplant/ purple that you would like and are rich enough to have a classy look on a front door. They will have the impact that a black door has, but different.
you don't want to pick a lighter purple than these or it will look really light and purplely in the sun light.

Usually you match your front door to your shutters but if you have none, your eggplant color may work. Pick out some color strips and hold them up to make sure or paint a tester spot.

I painted our front door a pretty strawberry color. The porch is a luscious green. So, it's like walking into a strawberry patch. I enjoy the two colors very much.
