Humans, obviously created the image of "God" similar to their physical appearance. This increase the acceptance of god to human mind, thats the reason why in Hinduism animals are respected / worshipped in humanoid forms like Ganesha, Narasimha.

Both. The Truth is that we are no different from God or the One Source. Everything you see and know exists as part of the same web of creation.
Humans are destined to be Creator-Gods.
Take this quote from an amazing book I suggest you read:
"You are a template, the prototype of a new & universal species, part solar, part material - both temporal & eternal - the species that will span the gulf between the visible & invisible."
Move beyond your religious dogma and see the Truth of your existence here at this moment in time. Awaken to your true nature.
We are the same as God and God is the same as us... there is no difference.
I suggest you read "The Third Millinnium: Living in the Posthistoric World" by Ken Carey.

God who does not have any form, age, shape, co lour, caste or community, religion, language, love, prejudice, likes or dislikes ( Bagavat Gita ) could have made people to his / her imagination. In Gita he says he does not have any of the above and people can see him according to their wish and fancies and will be with them if they do good and justice and pray to him. he will be with them and protect then and grant them the boons the wish all the time.
Man has created gods from time immemorial by worshiping nature, trees, animal, sun etc and slowly came to the Manly appearances and created Gods of his own size, shape and looks, . In India there are so many Gods and Goddesses. Indians have the practice of worshiping even their dead ones. And among the Gods there is powerful and not powerful like the Tiruppathy Balaji, where people stand in queue for 3/4 days to pray.

Apparently humans have created Gods in many forms, as humans, nature, animals, stars, planets, money, ideology or even personal ego. This suggests that if God exists, it exists in everything or in nothing at all. There is force that puts unity into the universe, that which connects all, humans have divided it up and given it all names.

Blessings and peace to you, Krkabadi:
Astronomers noticed at the Hale Observatory that there is a red shift in the galaxies. That means that everything is moving away from Earth. Yes, the last of God's creation is in the CENTER.
God knew He was taking a risk when there was a rebellion among His angels, and that Earth would probably fall. So He created us as the crowning act of His creation. And man was made special--"Let us create man in our image, in our likeness:, He said. We are a higher order of beings from the other planets.
Why? Because He foresaw the trials we would go through. And He had a remedy, revealed before Adam sinned. You see, when God wounded Adam's side to give him his wife, it pointed 4,000 years in the future when His Son, co-creator of the Universe and Earth, would receive a wound in His side so he could receive His bride, His church, and rule this planet as the unfallen Adam.
Earth will fall--it will be completely destroyed in the Battle of Armageddon, but God says: "Behold, I create a new heavens and earth."
A last-day Bible code tells when the cosmic conflict is over. You can e-mail me, Krkabadi, and I'll mail you something to read.
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

God created mankind in His own image. This is not image as in just physical image. God's physical image is way beyond our own.
One example of God' image is that He created male and female. The two express one image of God. That is, the traits of the male and traits of the female are both traits of God. God is protector, provider and also nurturer and caretaker. He is called Father, but this has nothing to do with gender, but the characteristics of fatherhood. Yet another Hebrew word has the literal meaning of "breasted one", which shows the mother-heart of God.
Now, for the idea you expressed of man creating God, that would negate Him as being God. Then, we are the all powerful and we were put here with no real purpose. We are not all powerful and human nature is not even improving enough for us to "get it right" - actually, we are in many ways getting worse. So, we cannot be God or any god.
I know you requested Hindu answerers, but I wanted to express what the Bible reveals. No disrespect intended.
May the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - the God Who sent Himself in His Son (Jesus) reveal Himself to you.

I think God enters into any physical form that exists when he wants to,so when the animals see Him, he is in their form.. I believe that his children as they continue along their spiritual journey enter into increasingly complex creations in their next incarnation. That may be why he created humans, so his children could begin the next level of spiritual development, yet continue to learn through the adversities that are inevitable when you live in a physical world. ( All physical beings have to eat, drink, and so on.)

Obviously, whether God exists or not, man has created his "gods" in his own image. Hence, for example, people who are obsessed with the details of other people's sex lives worship a "god" who is similarly obsessed.

No! Real God would not like any shape. Each shape has its own limitation and misery.
Hindu Holy Scriptures ( Vedas )define and accept only one God who have no image & shape but Hindu priest (Berahman cast) teach people about thousands of God. No one knows their source. I hope no one will ever know because common masses are not allowed to touch the Holy Scriptures???
Incarnation theory - God in flash is an Hindu idealogy which reached in Europe through Greeks and adopted by early church. Jesus christ is the best example of incarnation theory.

The image of God we bear involves our rational soul that separates us from animals. The function that the image plays in Genesis 1 is to separate humans from the animals God has just created.
