I would start by talking to the International Red Cross. If they don't have any internships or something, they may know who does. Not all such work is done by religious groups, but a lot of it is coordinated through the United Nations. You might try contacting them if the Red Cross does not suit you.

Good luck! This is a very good idea.

The local librarian, can help get that information to you..
also consult with the embassy people.
Sometimes persons in foreign lands (foreign to America)
are permitted to get a Visitor's Visa, and come to America
to be a Volunteer, and the Organization which hires you
for that will pay expenses, that way you can see America
If you wish to do that, You can contact the Volunteers of
America...they have offices all over America...and a lot
of Varieties of Jobs for their people.

Is there a European equivalent of the Peace Corps? If not you could try Feed the Children or something like that....I guess you could join the French foreign Legion too...probably not what you had in mind!
