My parents made a last minute decision that they want to send me to public school to finish out high school (10-12 gr.) The problem is I've been homeschooled all of my life and I have never been away from home so much! :( I'm really nervous.

So I was wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what highschool is like?

Thank you so much!

To be honest I think that high school is very good, u get to meet a lot of newpeople!
Something else it helps u do is mature, u become more mature, u r more responsible too!
High school has its bad and good things, but if u look at it in the bright side u will discover that is better than homeschool and that u can learn a lot about urself and others while u r therer!
Just don't freak out about it, if u don't like it just tell u parents that u don't like it and go back to homeschool after u have tried it for a yr or so!

WISH U THE BEST LUCK!!! =)

That really depends on the school. There are some schools that are more like minimum secure prisons with armed police or security guards roaming the campus, there are some that have racial problems, and some that are very good schools. I'm sure that if your parents went through all the trouble to home school you, they did so because they didn't like the available schools or didn't trust them. If they are that caring, they no doubt have researched this school to ensure that you are not going to be entering into a hostile situation.

Some advice; remember, you are there to be educated, not to party or goof off. Believe me, there will be those who will tempt you to get into drugs and alcohol. It's one of the biggest problems with high schoolers today. If you plan to go on to college, be very careful who you choose to be friends with. If you can, join one or more of the many clubs that match your interests. Hang with those who are serious about their studies and stay away from the so-called popular kids. They're mostly air-heads who think only of themselves anyway. Relax, and don't be TOO serious. Have fun and enjoy when it's appropriate.

I felt the same way going in.
I was homeschooled too, and when I started public school, people were like, oh, did you just move here? and I had to go through the whole thing about homeschooling.
School can be nasty, and horrible, and pretty much hell at times. Not to scare you but I'm telling you the truth.
It can also be fun, and amazing, and one of the best experiences.
I'm sure you know about the whole period schedule, and what it looks like, although, some advice about lockers, no matter what anyone tells you about it being easier to "set" your locker combination, its not safe, and you could lose all your stuff.
If you have more questions specifically, because I don't want to sound like I'm insulting your intelligence, but I'm not sure what you already know, my email's mycalgresh@yahoo.com, email me and we can talk more. :)

expect the unexpected!
it'll deffinetly be a culture shock, but you'll be just fine!
just be on your toes and watch how you become friends with! try to be ready for anything, it could be a crazy group of kids or it could be normal relaxed group of kids.

a good way to make it the best possible, is just come into skool being positive and open-mind! and try you best not to be nervous, there's nothing TOO BAD you should get to worried about!

hope i helped, and didn't make it worse!

High School is full of friends, enemies, and overall just drama. Lots of social things though, just try to make friends and everything will be tons better :]
