Better legal protection these days. They would have to face the criminal charges just as if the people they tortured and/or killed were not deserving of it.

We witches call that the Burning Times, and thank our Goddess Liberty for the First Amendment.

There is no evidence that the people who used to do the above were really Christians.

Most of the Scientists, such as Galileo where Christians.

He was persecuted by religous organizations which had stopped following Jesus a long time before.

PS: Remember it was Jesus who forgave the woman caught in the act of adultry. Jesus real followers have practiced forgiveness and not condemnation as well.

The extremists did that, with no valid basis. Pagans also have an atrocious history as do most organized and otherwise belief systems.
We are progressive, life is progressive.
Would you like all all to be extremists and step backwards in life, instead of moving ahead?

Fruitcake you are absolutely wrong. Protestants have blood on their hands, too. Look at what the Puritans did when they got here.

What about adding keeping slaves, encouraging the beating of wives and children, branding black people as less then human, shall I go on?

Because someone called themself a Christian didn't mean they were. Jesus teachings condemned those actions you mention.
Many of those who were persecuted were in fact the Christians that were in Gods favor. Jesus taught that his followers were not to take it upon themselves to judge as only God judges those guilty of sin. He said for Christians to be accountable for their own actions and to follow the teachings of His son.

Because society changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes worse. No one who follows the true meaning of Christianity does those things. There are better ways of spreading the Gospel than resorting to violence.

They still do all those things. You just need to perceive how they do it. Same old motivations, new & improved techniques.
