The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.
One of the religious truths is that God created everything and declared all was good.
Catholics can believe in the theory of evolution. Or not. The Church does not require belief in evolution.
On August 12, 1950 Pope Pius XII said in his encyclical Humani generis:
The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter - for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God.
Here is the complete encyclical: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xii/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xii_enc_12081950_humani-generis_en.html
The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.
As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.
With love in Christ.

If you have some issues with the Catholic Church, let's talk about them logically and with civility. Attacking the Pope and making unfounded accusations is the easy way out.
As a Catholic, I will clear something up for you, since you have gotten some bad information. The Pope does NOT decide what Catholics will believe. What Catholics believe has been handed down since the time of the Apostles and is almost entirely encapsulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
People come to Religion & Spirituality either to learn from others or to attack others for their beliefs. I pray you will not fall into the latter group.
Have you ever read the Catholic Catechism? That's a good place to start if you have questions and doubts.
God bless you.

Man has always lied, so why would you believe anything about evolution. There is NO solid proof of evolution and never will be.

Its not so hard to understand why people want to believe in a god.
Not hard at all, consider they think they creator of the ENTIRE universe loves them and watches over them.
If thats not a ego trip, what is?

People are gullible and lazy. They don't want to think for themselves and they want to be told what to do. They fear dieing and need to have purpose in their lives. They cannot accept we are here by chance and have the ability to control our own destiny.
