Matt and Silenced Lamb have been sucked into a hate campaign against Jehovah's Witnesses so you have to completely ignore their comments. Matt's scripture quoting is the classic out- of- context twisting of the scriptures used by many people who want to promote a set of their own doctrines instead of promoting directly what the bible teaches. I've seen it a thousand times, and a thousand times they are stumped when faced with bible context. The bible says you will know true disciples by their fruits, and these two are doing nothing but spreading lies in an effort to tear down instead of build up! Yahoo should allow the asker of the question to delete unwarranted or offensive answers such as theirs!
As was said by others already, you need to stay clear of watchtower.com- it is a website dedicated to the tearing down work that Matt and Silenced Lamb are committed to. Does it surprise you that in their quest to mislead people they tried to mimic the REAL website, www.watchtower.ORG!? Only a deceptive person would do such a thing instead of being straightforward! Be wary of someone who uses such deceptive tactics!
If you want to know about Jehovah, ask His Witnesses! If someone wanted to know more about you, would you want them to ask you or someone who hates you? Jesus warned us that there would be those who think they're doing the right thing by hating us, but in the end he will basically tell them to get lost! Read Matthew 5:11; 24:9; 2Timothy 3:12; then Matthew 7:21-23 to see what I mean! Be careful out there!
Oh yeah- one more thing, to Matt; if making a statement that turns out to be wrong forever condemns one as a "false prophet", then the apostle Peter is a false prophet! He said that Jesus would certainly not be beaten and die, right to Jesus' face! (Matthew 16:21-23) Did Jesus forever condemn him as a false prophet? No, he sternly reproved Peter and then lovingly helped him to correct his thinking (See also John 3:19-20). Are you saying that Jesus no longer does that for people? Are you saying that Jehovah's holy spirit is not constantly providing more and more understanding of scripture for God's people with the passing of time? Are you saying that we must fully understand each and every scripture's meaning AND application the first time we read it? How about the second, or third...? I guess you FULLY understood the entire bible after reading it once, eh? I'd be happy to go toe- to- toe with you on every subject you listed in your answer- the trinity, salvation by faith only, all of it! I'll just throw a scriptural "wrench" into a couple of those- You say that salvation can't be lost? That works don't matter? How about James 2:17- 26? You can read the whole portion at your convenience, but I'll give you the gist of it in verse 17- "Thus, too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself." Hebrews 10:26-29 tells us we can lose our salvation and that in doing so we are, in fact, worse than before we ever gained it! verse 26 reads- "For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left."
There is much more for you to learn, but in the spirit of trying to keep this as brief as possible here, I invite you to take it to private messages! The truth will indeed set you free!
Psalm 34:8 "Taste and see that Jehovah is good, O YOU people;
Happy is the able-bodied man that takes refuge in him!"

I am so pleased you asked former Jehovah's Witnesses to answer this question. Otherwise, how could you ever find out why they left? There are some interesting answers from your spiritual brothers and sisters - but not one of them has come up with the obvious. While I was a Jehovah's Witness, I also thought I had the true religion and there was no way I was ever going to leave it. That would be really stupid, wouldn't it, to leave what you believed to be true that gave you peace of mind. Neither did I leave because I was immoral or someone stumbled me or I simply didn't want to live up to the Bible's high standards. I wasn't mixing with worldly people, I didn't take up smoking or drinking. In fact, I was pioneering and I was married to a pioneer. So why did I leave? You need to understand that my parents became Witnesses in the 1930's, and that I knew nothing other than what Jehovah's Witnesses believed. We were all expecting the end of 6,000 years of man's existence to end in the fall of 1975 (I can provide the Watchtower quotations if you doubt me) and that meant Armageddon would come soon after. My parents believed they were the generation that would see the fulfilment of the end-time prophecies in Matthew 24 and that they would be alive when the Millennial reign of Christ started. None of us made any of this up. We all believed what the Society told us. Guess what? This prophecy was false - we're still waiting, 33 years later. This is the reason I left - false prophecies about dates and predictions when 6,000 years of human existence will end. Any peace of mind I had was shattered when I realised the extent to which I had been mislead. I am now a born-again Christian with a heavenly hope and I praise God that, through the Holy Spirit, he brought me to a place of repentance and forgiveness. Religion does not save. Only Jesus Christ can do that.

There are no other websites endorsed by us. There are some that mention us, but of these I can't think of any aside from possibly wikipedia that try to be objective. As for obtaining our books, if for some reason you don't want them for free from us, I have seen some sold on eBay, though at times people put up fake books, on many subjects, so there is a chance it will not be the real thing.
In response to the former Dyslexic, who said no where have anti Witness members said to avoid our teachings, if she looks at the beginning of the rather long answer by Matt she will see him say "stay away from them"

Good idea to want books on Jehovah because if you stick with that topic you will find much more about Jehovah than just what the witnesses teach. In the King James Bible you can get a good picture of Jehovah. Buy a Concordance so as you study you can check the orignal language and meaning of the word. Pray before you begin to read that the Lord teaches you what he would have you know first, that He open you eyes and mind to receive His truth and as you get His truth you get wisdon also. You are undertaking a life changing journey. Be Blessed!

I am getting bored with this anti JW slant and Bible bickering back and forth. My religion is the right religion, no mine is, not so as my religion is the right religion as the Bible says so. On yeah, well I know more about the Bible than you as I have read it all the way through 15 times with my eye shut and my arm behind my back. Well your church has no windows what are you afraid people will see? Well at least we let anyone attend oh yeah well my church is the true church and you are conspiring with the Devil. No I am not. Yes you are as this Bible verse I have remembered from the time I was three years old says so.
Remember folks, God is watching all this and other religious threads and I can only imagine what he is thinking. I feel sorry for him.
Anyone that knows me knows I am not a JW fan but I am tired of all this. shellback

Hi,
Matt gave you an excellent answer. I agree with Silenced Lamb that it is worth taking the time to read it.
If you truly want to know the uncreated Creator of the universe He will help you as you draw near to Him. I highly recommend reading the Bible from cover-to-cover.
I also recommend looking at a chart called One Truth Exposes a Thousand Lies - Traits Shared Between Jehovah and Jesus. It can be found at http://www.soulright.com

Yes, watchtower.org. We don't sell our books so call your local Kingdom Hall like the others said and they will be happy to give one to you. Remember:Jesus Christ was accused of being a drunkard, a glutton, a Sabbath breaker, a false witness, a blasphemer of God, and a messenger of Satan. He was also accused of being subversive.—Matthew 9:34; 11:19; 12:24; 26:65; John 8:13; 9:16; 19:12. So don't believe everything you hear about JWs.

Jehovah is the personal name of Almighty God.
It is the closest English language word that translates from the original Hebrew word YHWH. Because it is all consonants and no vowels, we do not know how it is pronounced. So for our own convenience we have added vowels. YaHWeH...a and e
In the original Bible manuscripts in Hebrew and Greek, YHWH appears over 7,000 times. It is different from the other TITLES of Almighty God, such as LORD and GOD.
Many modern Bibles have removed YHWH and replaced it with LORD or GOD. But because these are titles, it is not an accurate translation.
Check out how these scriptures are translated.
Psalm 83;18 and Exodus 6;3 in both the 1611 King James and the 21st Century King James translations.
21st'c.'; 18that men may know that Thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the Most High over all the earth.
Exodus 6 (21st Century King James Version)
21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

Exodus 6
1Then the LORD said unto Moses, "Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land."
2And God spoke unto Moses and said unto him, "I am the LORD.
3And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob by the name of God Almighty, but by My name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
In this last scripture, there is a definite separation between title and NAME.
And it is God's NAME that Jesus was making manifest.
(John 17:6) “I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word.
In modern translations, God's personal name has been replaced in the mistaken idea that it is TOO HOLY to use. The scriptures do not support this thinking.
