If there is a difference, it has not been communicated to those of us who find the whole thing pretty absurd.
From the outside, I would say that Intelligent Design could apply to those who believe that evolution is the mechanism by which God carries out his design. I feel that way about it, but to me it is Mother Nature who uses the mechanism.

The creationist takes every word of the bible and says it is true. God created the universe in six day. No questions asked. The ID only looks at science and says there is no way to explain this portion of Biology without using intelligence. It does not attribute it to the bible, Koran, or any other religious book. It only shows the apparent using science alone. From that point it is up to the individual to make the choice as to weather it was God, An alien maybe, or whatever. But they arent ignorant and call it chance, they see that it is to complex to happen by natural sciences alone.

There are many kinds of creationism and ID is one of them. Young earth (the earth is not much over 6000 years old), old earth, and again variations on those. An ID believer cant be a young earth creationist, because ID still implies some sort of evolution is taking place. They say to be scientific, but still they don't do much scientific, as they are only filling in the blanks in knowledge about evolution with their god. The only science they do is finding out where regular science has not been able to come up with an explanation yet.

Well there are Creationists, and Young Earth creationists
Some people would argue that their God, put events into motion. And let evolution etc, happen.
Others would say he directly formed life as it exists on this planet today and designed it with purposes for everything.

Intelligent design is just creationism re-packaged for the express purpose of getting religion taught in public schools under the guise of science. Both are for the purposes of stealth evangelism.

Creationists believe God created us the way we are and there was no evolution. Intelligent Design says that God created us, and God guided our evolution.

If you believe in intelligent design, it means you're smart enough to realise that the biblical account of creation is clearly bull, but not smart enough to accept that all the evidence implies no design in nature.

At is root, ID is really an argument for Deism. Creationism is taking the story right out of the Bible.
