Brisk walking and a low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein has helped me lose 31 lbs.

The diet is important . Eat healthily with lots of veggies, lean meat and complex carbs and exercise, you will not have problem losing some fats and weight.

I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week. I am now maintaining my 108lbs for more than a year.

Walking is exercise, albeit mild form of exercise. But it burns more calories than if you were sitting on the sofa. I believe walking can help you lose weight and get in shape, as long as you stick with it regularly, and make it a part of your routine along with your diet. Walking is a good way to work yourself up to other more strenuous activities if you are really out of shape. Start with a walk around the block. Then work up to a mile. It takes about 30 minutes to walk a mile, at a normal, 2 mph, walking pace. You can either speed it up after your body has become accustomed to the exercise, and add another mile to your walk. You may then want to move onto something more strenuous, like bicycling.

Just remember, *any* activity burns calories, some more than others.

To maintain your current weight and fitness it will work if you walk about 1 hour a day. If you want to loose some serious weight you need to do vigorous exercise to get your heat pumping of at least 45 minutes 3 times a week.

Try not to diet. Diet's are useless long term. Work on eating healthy meals in smaller portions throught the day!

I think walking is more of a benefit for the heart, and it does help to tone up leg muscles some, but not so much for losing weight. Walking is also good for the mind and spirit.

Walking can be effective if you do enough of it, since it doesn't really burn a lot of calories. We're talking hours, not minutes.
