In my opinion you should never quit a job without finding a new one first. I say start applying to new jobs now and when you find the right one, then you can quit.

Well, the answer lies in your heart. Do you really hate your job so bad that you just want to quit? What made you this way? Companies Policies? Boss? Or condition of work? First, you need to find the root problem, that is, Why do you want to quit? If it is just the type of job you are currently in, what other jobs can you apply for? Second, you need to answer: If I do quit, can I get another job at another XXX company? Will my status as a foreigner efffect my job placement? This shouldn't be a problem considering that jobs that are offered by companies should not be discriminatory in nature. And finally, will a change of work place change my financial stability.

If I were in your situation and I hated my job that bad, I would still continue to work but will be always on the look out for better oppportunities. I would not just give up and quit right away. I recommend that you talk to your love ones about your situation. And get a piece of paper out and list all of the reasons why you want to leave and list all of the reasons why you should stay.

In these economically questionable times, I would not just quit. Unless you have enough money saved to live on for a while. You should look for a job while still working, give notice when you get another one and leave on good terms.

If you negotiate with a new employer and you are presently employed you have a much stronger bargaining position when negotiation for salary. If you are unemployed, your new employer has the advantage.

Suppose you are unable to quickly find a new job.

Never, never quit a job until you have a new one. 50% of the working population hates their present job.

How long have you been looking for another position? A job search at that level can take months, and your credibility as a job seeker is greatly enhanced when you are currently employed. Stay where you are, but get more aggressive with your job hunting.

You should think about it. If it makes you happier, quit. If you're not enjoying your job, quit. I'm foreign, too (and very very young, less than 20)

it is easier to find a new job while you still have your old one. It looks like you are upgrading not desperate. You will probably get a better offer from the new job because they feel they are wooing you away.

You should find another job first. You can leverage the new company against the old one, if they value you, they can lure you to stay with a better offer. It happened to me, my old company matched and upped the offer and I decided to stay.
