When you are quoted a price in Australia, by law it must have all taxes and charges included. There is a 10% Goods and Services Tax on everything plus fuel levies, airport taxes etc. The GST is applied to those taxes and charges as well.

The price of the airfare includes all the charges so if you get a special low price you are often getting a real bargain. If you use Frequent Flyer points, you still have to pay the taxes. I flew Jetstar from Ballina to Sydney and Qantas from Sydney to Adelaide and return on Frequent Flyer points and it cost me $168 in taxes and charges. That was $153 in taxes and charges plus $15.30 GST. It is a bit much when they charge you a tax and then tax it again.

Even so, whatever price you are quoted for the ticket is all you have to pay as it must include the taxes.

I am pretty sure it is

Depends on the airline - some will give you a price (fare) with tax included, some will show you they add tax after the fare - then give you a total. When you book it will tell you if tax if included (and give details) in the fare.

Always, as well as a fuel levy. but these are usually in the price you are quoted.
