Every one must work out their own salvation. Peter told us in the Bible that Jesus, between death and resurrection, went to teach the spirits in prison. Why? What did he teach? We believe he unlocked the doors that holds back those who never had a chance to accept the Gospel during their mortal lifes. This spirit prison is hell.

We can't pray them out of hell. They have to want to leave. If the dead repent and if they accept Jesus Christ, will he forgive them? Is there anything else they need? Yes, they must be baptized and receive the other ordinances of the Gospel. How can this be done if they are dead? We can do these things as their proxy. Why would God accept a proxy? Wasn't Christ our proxy on the cross? Didn't he make the sacrifice for sin on our behalf?

Yes they do, sort of. They believe in baptism for the dead (where a member is immersed in the name of a dead person) and their belief in 3 degrees of glory. Ironically their Book of Mormon never teaches this... one heaven, one hell just like the Bible. Their Book of Mormon also teaches that those who are ACCOUNTABLE and die in their sins cannot repent. It teaches baptism is only for the repentent and those who know the gospel and choose to follow it. The Mormons do not follow their own Book of Mormon, or the Bible for that matter. Catholics have similar beliefs in praying for those in purgatory.

Don't christians?

Wow, I never realized christians needed the threat of permanent hell to scare people into believing their lies.

Sounds like mormons are a little better than christians.

Good Lord! You mean the kind and gracious god in heaven, who is invisible, yet demands total admiration and worship now and in the hereafter otherwise sends non-believers into a awful hell, is trying to scare you (us) into believing in him? What a nice and kind deity. You are so blessed.

So, tell me again, why did he need to torture his son?

I don't think this guy is worthy of worship until he starts making some sense.

I agree with Shorty Magee, you can't pray someone out of hell. That final and ultimate judgment is God's and I wouldn't want the responsibility of deciding that fate.
And the baptism of others isn't the askers question, so it doesn't belong in this part..

In Mormon theology, the dead can be baptized into the faith vicariously through a believing descendant or relative. Martin Luther for one was Mormonized in this manner. That roar you hear from underneath the chancel floor of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany is Luther screaming his head in protest!

Yes. But it will not surprise you to know that only God will decide the fate of the dead: ...'and inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment [Hebrews 9:27].

I know that you can be in hell while you are still alive and kicking. So maybe that is what they are talking about.
