I'm 23, got a tattoo on my lower left ab (right on the pant-line) thinking i wouldn't ever have to show it to my parents (we haven't gone on vacation. together in a decade). We're going on vacation in a few weeks and we are definitely going to the beach. I went to the MAC store to ask for advice and they applied THREE different products (totalling well over $30) that wasn't even waterproof. I don't use a lot of makeup so buying expensive foundation and coverup isn't something i'm looking forward to. Any advice on how to cover it? My tattoo is 2 inches tall and i would only need to cover 1/2 inch of it because the rest would be hidden under my bathing suit. HELP!!

eventhough i'm 23, i still fear my parents--you don't know my dad! I have really old-fashioned filipino parents and tattoos are definitely a 'no' in the fam. Telling them (at least right now) is not an option... thanks for the advice though.

well even if my parents are strict i would still show it to them your 23 it is your life and they cant tell you what to do... you never know they may not even have a problem with it.. the only way to cover it up is makeup .. wear a shirt at all times... or band-aid

I love all my tattoos. However, work does not. I have to wear a thick-banded watch on my right arm just a little higher than where a normal watch would sit, because work disagrees with me on tattoos. Not all jobs are like that, but many places are. I think that's what people are getting at when they say to get them someplace that can be covered up. When I'm not at work, I don't cover my tattoos. I think tattoos can make a person more beautiful, even if it's only because it's something that has meaning to that person, and gives them confidence. Tattoos and piercings would never effect what I think about people. When I look at old pictures of myself, where I'm missing a tattoo or piercing, I think I look so naked and awkward. I think that my tattoos make me more beautiful and show off my personality more.

Hey Dear! Good Luck with that! Sorry I don't have any valuable advice.. but I do have a funny story! I have 1 very old fashioned filipino parent. When my mom saw my first tattoo, which yes I attempted to cover up, she beat the heck out of me! She kicked me in the leg so many times, I think she was trying to knock the tattoo off! Best of luck getting it covered up. Its sooo much easier to try and hide it rather than having to deal with their disapproval and going through the explanations. Funny, my family in the Philippines were much more easier on me than my own semi americanized-filipino mom! LOL..

Just wear a t-shirt you say your dad is old fashioned, mine too! So wearing a t shirt is a safe way to go I know for sure he won't have a problem with that. Enjoy your vacation, with the shirt you know you re covered so worrying about foundation running or your dad noticing won't have to take any focus off your well needed vacation with your family..

there is a WATERPROOF cover up kit by "covermark". i ordered it from theknot.com when i was getting ready to get married and didn't want the corner of my tattoo sticking out over my dress. it's a 3 or 4 step process, but it works well and is very much waterproof... (i had to scrub with soap and water to get it off afterward).

i don't know the price off the top of my head, but as well as it works it may just be worth it for you to order it.

good luck either way!

Why bother covering it? You're 23 now and not a little kid. They'll have to accept it. Even though I'm not a fan of tattoos once you got one you got one. It's your decision.

since i dont wear make-up or know anything about it, the only thing that i could really suggest is that you try a one piece bathing suit. maybe that would cover it up?

Hey, my parents are old-fashioned filipinos, too ;)

To your problem:

Use ArtDeco Camouflage. It costs about 16dollars and it really helps hiding tattoos :)
