honestly, i don't think you can have one without the other. it is through prayer that we learn to listen to His voice, and the closer we form that relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, the more we will be able to discern when it is the Holy Spirit or when it is our own selfish desires.
without prayer and supplication, we will not be blessed with the Holy Spirit. So, both are important i would say. How will we know God if we do not talk with Him? and how can we listen if we do not know Him?

Obeying the Holy Spirit is praying Cindy.
Praying is about listening not about talking.

Both are important,
I pray to give thanks for everything that has been given and thanks for what will be given in advance. Even before I ask, it already has been done.
I listen to My Holy Spirit for it is my soul. The soul's language are my feelings. I listening to my feelings, experiences and highest thought of myself, which guides me through the words people use when I am having a conversation. I realize that words are the least purveyor of truth. And like you stated in the question above, My Holy Spirit, soul, knows the Word of God, which I can listen to through inward reflection that reflects outwardly through my actions and examples, not my words. My words are merely an invitation.

Well technically, I suppose, if you obey the Holy Spirit, you will pray since His Word says, "Pray without ceasing" (something I really need to work on, admittedly).

Praying and leading a good Christian life is the best.
Your comments on the Holy Spirit worry me. How are you defining it? You know his voice?
Remember when you pray then you talk to God. When you think God talks to you that is called schizophrenia!
Seriously your question appears to indicate a probable psychological problem.
Please ease back from this zealous idea and get back to being a good Christian. Speak to a good pastor and for goodness sake if you think you are hearing voices in any way get help fast.

They are both equally important because they both are the same thing. Prayer is the question, the Holy Spirit is the answer. It is the answer to your prayers. God bless you.

I believe that they are close in meaning but altogether different. I would chose to obey, by doing so would encompass praying. To deny the spirit is an abomination unforgivable by any means.
P.S. Disregard David M comment he is in the closet and apparently never read Matthew 39: O'l fart

Prayer is simply on facet of obedience; this isn't an either-or issue by an and-also one. By the way, a work of love is simultaneously a prayer of adoration. That is how we can pray without ceasing!

Prayer is a two-way speaking between GOD and man . It is talking and listening, when you pray you are in the highest moment in your life because u become one with GOD. So prayer is the most important thing than anything else.
