Something needs to be done. I live in Philadelphia and we have the highest murder rate in the country right now. It is ridiculous. We have 16 year olds killing each other, parents being gun down in front of the children and kids being shot at. There is no value for human life I know people who take care of their pets better than there own family members. I dont know what we have to do.. I know people who care for there kids and do everything from sending them to the best schools after school activities but they are still losing them to the streets.
I just hope something is done soon because I really live in a war zone. I am moving this month and I am lucky I can get out but what about those who cant. We have people loosing there lives going to work, school even church. The innocent are dieing. I told my husband the other day that we were in our house packing the last of our things and he went to the truck to load it up and he was gun down and died even before we made it to the new house. I pray it doesn't happen but what is the world going to do.
If you find an answer please share it with me.

This is a very good question.
The youth of today should be taught respect for others, but at a very young age, by their parents.
We live in a nanny state, where the so called do gooders rule everything.
I think some form of national service would be a good thing, but not neceserely as before, in the armed service.
Why not introduce the same thing, but within the fire brigade or ambulance service ?
90% ,I think, of the youth today are law abiding, and cause no nuseice to others, but it would do no harm to introduce the mesures you state.
I deliberetly missed out the police force above, for obviuos reasons, but it should still be on the agender, there are many kids out there who want to help and care for others.

I was two years too young for national service, I do not know if I was lucky or not. However having seen part of the 1950's training in a television programme I do not know who the morans are the yobbos or the returned pretend NCO's How that sort of treatment can give ayoungster self respect beats me. I do think that a form of community service may well be a good idea if used and administered properly

Definitely - the army teaches discipline and respect and can be a life-saver for those who have no prospects. My cousin's son got into a bad crowd and at one stage, we all thought he'd inevitably end up in prison, until he joined the army. He is now a totally different person is now so respectful of others and a credit to his family. One of his army friends had a similar start in life and they have totally turned their lives around.
In the long run, it not only benefits the person involved, but also the country. Look at other countries who have national service - their crime levels are nowhere near what we have in Britain.

I find this difficult to answer. On the one hand i think i know where you are coming from,it has always been thought of as a way of straightening out difficult people. How ever would it be right to send some one possible to their death when they would not have joined up of their own choice. Also although we do not have a big army we have the best Army,Navy and Air Force in the world. Do we really want to load it with the scum of the earth.

I`ve been saying that 4 ages as there`s no discipline now teach the big hard men yobs what its like 2 do as they r told if it`s fights they want send them 2 Iraq or any where theres war going on but you will have 2 give them tissues to dry up their tears as with most cowards they don't like 2 b bullied themselves.

I think that everyone both, boys and girls should have to spend some time with the forces for a minimum of three years.
This will teach respect, loyalty to their country and give them pride in themselves.
They can continue with any education whilst in the forces and prepare themselves for a good career when they leave.
What better grounding for life than defending and supporting their country.
I do not however, think it should be anything like it was in the old days whilst, at the same time be too soft.

I wish that they would bring it to Canada and the United States. Maybe if we had compulsory two year military service immediately following high school (or at age 18) we wouldn't have so many disrespectful, self-absorbed @ssholes with no sense of reality running around!

I do not believe in conscription. The young should be made to pay for the disgusting way they behave. They get too much of there own way then the schools etc blame the parents. My son was a pain & all the school did was kiss & cuddle him he ended up in a special school same thing happened. He had the ability to twist people around his little finger.
