Hey, I would like to know how you go about the political process of trying to get a law changed. I would like to try and get the legal drinking age lowered to 18. I feel it is odd that we can go die for our country and vote for the next world leader, yet we can not have a glass of alcohol. Also, all the other countries in the world has a 18 yr old drinking age and they have a lower amount of drunk driving crashes. Not to mention, most of the crashes are of people of legal age, so this will NOT effect the drunk driving rate. So, please do not say it will increase drunk driving because it will not. Not to mention, anyone under the age of 21 can get alcohol easily. I would like to try and make a change instead of just sitting around and complaining about the age limit. Try and make a difference. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I like how everyone in the US is so anti-alcohol yet in all other countries it is not a big deal. And the whole I can die for my country thing is just making a point that 18 can be mature enough. And if there was a draft, I would have to go. Why not raise the driving age to 21 since we aren't mature enough?

I think the law cannot be changed, for good reason.

Nobody waits until legal age to start drinking. Usually, people just are discreet about drinking until the proper time, at least, responsible people. The others are easily culled from ordinary traffic, then dealt with by the courts. You say the law should be about justice, others say the law should be about getting out bad drunken drivers. Both are similar and have a point, but there is a subtle difference relevant in this case.

There is also another matter. If you look at insurance rates, you would see they are substantially higher for people under twenty-five. They are involved in more accidents than other segments of the population. It is not that they are dumber or more irresponsible. Driving is a skill, and people can learn to drive competently in a month. However, it takes years to become a good driver. Even experienced drivers are tempted to take shortcuts, to avoid effort. Yes, some people become good drivers almost from the start, but in practice, a substantial minority do not become good until they are years behind the wheel. Add alcohol to the inexperience, and you get a recipe for trouble.

Last but not least, it takes a group action to change laws. Most people as they get older just want to go on with their lives. The very few people who feel strongly about this issue are easily swayed by others who have an interest in keeping the law as is, such as insurance companies. Still, it is the non-conformist who changes the world. Good luck in your quest.

In this case write your state legislator and tell him/her you want the law changed. Good luck because if your state lowers the drinking age then the Federal Government is going to cut funding to the state.

I'm a veteran.........I think people who complain about dying for their country but not being allowed to drink should put their money where their mouth is and run out and enlist. Sure you "could" fight for your country but many don't they just want to run down to the Quicky Mart and buy a six pack and the "die for your country" bit is a nice talking point.

Not anti-alcohol. Just anti-whine.

If you'd actually done any research, you'd know that there's very little factual basis for your argument. The "I can fight for my country, but can't drink a beer" thing has gotten old. People volunteer to serve in the armed forces. You could easily have found out how to change a law, if you had actually looked instead of just making sh*t up.

Great, provide us with a link. I'd like to see where you got your bullsh*t statistics from.

For every retard kid that says, I can die for my country but we can't drink, I say this. Go enlist in the Marines. The on base drinking age is now 18 on Marine Corps installations.

I say passing a law making MILITARY members exempt from the drinking age is fine. All of you idiots that say, "I can fight for my country but can't buy a beer", that don't actually plan to fight should get a better arguement.

I will agree that you make more and better arguements than most, so, good luck. You'll fail, but good luck.

Hope you get good answers to this. I want to INCREASE the alcohol age to 35, especially for women. They have the children. Both young parents should be alcohol-free so that the fetuses are not damaged and so they have enough money to raise their children properly. Too bad people don't wise-up to the dangers of alcohol.
