Your cousin did not know so it's not his/her fault. If no one else knows then someone else in the family may have a child and choose that name before you have a child of the correct sex to use the name on also. What if you never have a child of the correct sex to use the name on. What then? It's just a matter of who gets in there first.
My sister-in-law had the name Danielle picked out for a girl right from the time she was a kid. She ended up with 6 boys. The last one she called Daniel.
Just be happy that your cousin has a new dog that will hopefully be loved and cared for all it's life. A name is just a name. If your cousin is anything like many people the dog will get called by many nicknames and hardly ever it's real name in time. It's certainly not worth getting upset about and even less worth being upset about.

I work at a boarding kennel and lots of dogs seem to share my name! My boss yelled at one of the dogs once and i turned around and said "what?....i didnt do anything!" My friend has a dog with the same name as me as well. It's no big deal really...a source of amusement some days though :-)

Have you ever seen a puppy coming up the street? It is more than just a canine offspring. It is an ambassador of acceptance. The wee thing will greet anyone! Rich, poor, old, young, happy, sad, evil, righteous, it doesn't care. It won't judge you. The creature doesn't care if you are a man or a woman, it doesn't care if you are black or white, native or oriental and it doesn't care if you have bad breath and are ugly or a perfect set of teeth with a body to kill for. All it wants is to love you.
Terrific isn't it? The dog isn't even old enough to run outside for a piss and all it wants is your love and the wee thing doesn't even want to make you pay for it. It will accept you with a wagging tail and an excited spirit.
It will grow into a dog.
A dog is a pack animal. Like us humans it needs to be with a family, it needs to belong, and it will accept it's position in the family without rancour. A dog will follow you like a shadow, remain faithful when you leave it out in the cold cold rain and forget about it, when you do remember? It will be so happy to find that you came and got it out of the rain. It will not seek revenge for your mistake. The animal will not conciously make you pay for leaving it locked outside. A dog loves you from it's birth to it's death unconditionally! The only lifeform I know of that is more forgiving than a dog is God Himself.
It is the most forgiving creature I've ever known of; in my life here on earth.
So there is a dog that will answer to your childs name....good for your child. That is a lot to live up to.

Get over it...you can't reserve names. Many people and dogs in this world share the same name.

My daughter (aged 9) named her new puppy after her best friend back in London. The friend is quite flattered! I wouldn't worry about it.
So why would you call your firstborn Fido? Just kidding :-D
