I was wondering if there are any health concerns of having a pet bird such as a parrot in your house?

Is it unhealthy to breathe near their feces?

well if your a bird keeper you welcome the poop yes thats right you welcome it.
You obviously don't bathe in the stuff thats NOT recommended.
But if you keep parrots these are prey birds and instinct makes them hide any signs of being unwell so for the bird keeper the poop is the first indication of an unwell bird.
I have kept and bred birds for over 23 years now and ive never caught anything from the birds poop.
It sounds to me as thought you are considering buying a bird My friend so I would ask you to do your research.

Please take the time to read through the information links I am about to give you they will help you decide and offer all the info you will need to make your choice.
good luck to you in your ultimate decision.

The bird pooping on you had nothing to do with your fever or headache. Especially if it's been well over a month for anything to show up. It is flu season, that's more likely the reason you don't feel well.

Why do people answer important medical questions when they clearly have no idea about the subject?

Psittacosis is a zoonotic disease often acquired from birds, generally through their droppings. It can be a significant infection in humans. Be aware of it but do not let it keep you from owning birds unless, perhaps, you have a condition that results in a compromised immune system. This site has more info.

Yes,it's very harmful to be around in.All you have to do is clean the cage every other day. They are very messy.

Well as long as you wash your hands and don t breath in the smell from the birdcage completely you should be good.My mother and I recently bought two parakeets and the smell is awful. But like cleaning spray and stuff don t breathe it in to hard and you should be fine!

I know that poultry farmers can get a severe lung disease called poultry lung from breathing the ammonia and other things in chicken poo.

I DONT THINK ANY " POOP " FROM ANYTHING SHOULD TAKE UP WITH YOU. BIRDS HAVE MITES,FLEAS ETC. AS DO A LOT OF OTHER CRITTERS. CLEAN THE CAGES REGULARLY AND YOU SHOULD BE SAFE BUT IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS WEAR A MASK.
