why is everything in there unoriginal? Everything I am about to mention comes before the start of christianity.

Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days later. December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Romulus is described as the Son of God, born of a virgin.

Pictograms of Isis nursing her miraculously conceived son Horus became the image of our images of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus.

Really all of the bible is ancient pagan religions re-written and the names changed. There is nothing original about it. And remember, all of these happened before this guy jesus was supposedly on earth.

oldguy63 - so you are saying the bible doesn't talk of a virgin birth, or a god being killed and rising from the dead three days later? or turning water into wine?

Dionysus turned water into wine. Then his followers are filled with atay, the Spirit of God.

Bashful Reader - everything you mentioned is in the bible, which, I said is copied from other pagan religions. And I didn't say I was trying to destroy christianity. Sounds like someone is getting defensive when their beliefs are challenged. Really, how do you know that jesus helaed those people?

2007-07-27 21:27:17 · update #4

SpeshLBrownies - yes, I agree that the bible should NOT be taken literally, but there are many people who take it that way and think a god wrote it.

Linda H - wow, wow, they really have you brainwashed don't they?

"Very simple, the enemy (Satan) can read."
uh..what? did you just call me satan?

"Didn't Romulus have a twin? Mothers nursing their babies? Only so many ways you can draw that. I have only seen pictures of Mary holding baby Jesus not nursing him."

can you really not see the similarities here? He is the son of god and was born a virgin, and didn't jesus have a brother too? oh ya, he did.

and the december 25th thing, well the point is they picked a day that had a lot to do with a lot of other religions. It was actually the winter solstice that the christians were trying to cover up.

"And how many followers does Mithras have today?" well, I am sure they are out there. And what makes you think Mithras is any less real that jesus? And what does it matter if there are followers or not. Are you saying that a lot of people can't be wrong? And the gifts, the EXACT same gifts for a newborn? Admit it, the bible stole everything

I agree with you. But I also want to say that moral lessons don't need to be based on facts. Moral lessons just need to give us food for thought and make us want to be better people. Maybe that is all the Bible and other religous books are; stories to make us want to be better and love people more. (Of course you will have to filter out all the bad stuff, like mass killings and whatnot.)

You got all this info from Zeitgeist.com and none of it is true . Look up Mithra's , Horus etc . everything you are saying is a lie . Study and research .
In response I looked at your sites and quite frankly there is nothing on these sites which supports what you are saying . Yes it does say that Mithra's was based on astrology but not Jesus . In fact it really doesn't say much about Jesus at all . The date Dec 25th is not given anywhere in the Bible , and is a date chosen by men to celebrate a holiday and in fact was chosen to get the pagans to come to church . There was no virgin birth of Horus if you know ancient myths you will find that Horus was conceived by his mother having sex with his dead fathers penis . I can tell you've never read the Bible because none of these myths are anywhere similar to anything in the Bible .If you do a search for questions related to zeitgeist here on answers you will find that Egyptologist's have given their opinions on this subject . They do quote the actual myths and do state there is no comparison . These are not religious people just historically acurate people . You are looking for something that isn't there . I read your sites and proved you wrong but you wouldn't know that because you haven't read mine . Try the NIV as it's easiest to understand .

NOTHING IS ORIGINAL. Everything was here, is here and going to stay here forever.
There is no beginning and there is no end, like you can't find what is first hen or egg. Both are true. We should not try waste our energy in finding it. Truth, by its nature is bound to get lost over a period, and re-found by some saint, god, priest, bhagwan, son of god, Krishna etc. There are basic truths, which are there in every religion. The common things in every religion are real religion. Addition and subs traction are every where. Every religion tries and differentiate how it is different than others. How it is better than others. The principle of gravitation was found out by an scientist on a certain day. That does not mean that before it was found, it was not there. IT WAS THERE, IT IS THERE AND GOING TO STAY THERE FOREVER.
Love, hatred, envy, jelousy, anger, likings, deslikings, approval and delnials were there, are there and going to stay with human and animals, forever.
Every religion says: Never hurt anybody, Never cheat, Love every body, Never to steal, never to deceive, Respect everybody.
Anything apart from these, are only to show that we are different than others.
To us the ancient religion is pagan and recent one is "Rajchandra Path" (Basically it is jainism), which is just a 100 years old. Anything that is going to come in future are going to have above things in common. Only people born in that religion will say it only WE are with the original.
Religions were there, some of them are not there today. They rise, because they have to fadeout. New will come, because they too have to go. We are born, we have to die.
Change is a way of life. But stay with the ultimate truth, which are there with every religion and believe me god is with us. WE WILL BE IN HEAVEN..... God bless..... (I don't know what to say to people who do not believe in god)

Well in terms of December 25 birth of Jesus this is definately wrong, you are correct, for this was adopted many centuries later by the catholic church in an attempt to attract pagan converts by mimicking their holidays. Their are a number of other holidays that were copied when Christianity became the religion of the Roman empire.

In terms of Jesus being the son of God, yes their are coincidental similarities in that much of the medittaranean world, whether it be greeks, romans, egyptians, they believed in gods and sons of Gods etc..however the bibles stating that Jesus was the son of God is not a copy.

If you read the book of Isaiah, which was composed in the 8th century BC, their is a prediction that the messiah would be god's son. The messiah being the son of God is also stated in the Psalms of david, dating back similarly hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus.

According to church teaching the Bible is the written word of God and Jesus is the Word made flesh. In the original sense, Jesus is the WORD of God.

The written word of God , the bible is written by holy men. It is a reflection of faith not a scientific fact. It is compose of historical event of the Israelites, some myths are also written on it, Hymns and Praises too. It is so rich in lierature value. One should not read and understand it literally. The Bible is sometimes contradictory to itself, it is also full of figurative speech. One should read it with an open mind and must consider that commentaries by scholars were done before. It should not be interpreted as personal but should read it with the mind of the church and those who have unlocked its meaning centuries before us. God Bless us!

Very simple, the enemy (Satan) can read. Many things were foretold in the Old Testament(wether written or oral). Satan deals in half truths so from the time of biblical prophesy to the time of Christ's birth Satan was at work twisting and confusing. He is the orginal counterfeiter.

Didn't Romulus have a twin? Mothers nursing their babies? Only so many ways you can draw that. I have only seen pictures of Mary holding baby Jesus not nursing him.

And how many followers does Mithras have today?

It is also commonly accepted that Jesus was NOT born on Dec. 25. The early church (Catholic ?) declared that date, it is beleived to have actually been in our summer months - exact date unknown.

So Jesus was suppose to get gifts no body ever got before or since? Gifts of the times - I'm sure lots of people in that time got gold and spices and perfumes back then. Oh wait they still get those today......... It just says he got them - no special significance is attached to these items anyway.

The Bible is a story, not as Scientific FACT. Sorry there is no way Humans 10,000 years ago lived to the age of 500. The average age at those times at the most were 40. Jesus has no witness's surrounding his birth, and or death. It took 40+ years to write about him, and it is proven that the Resurection was added later on.

No, you are reading out of a Da Vinci spoof again.
Take Mithras for example:
"The basic doctrine of Mithraism, as far as can be told, is that Mithras was a god who was born from a rock and destined to secure the salvation of the world; to do this he was commanded by the god Apollo (through the intermediary agent of a raven) to slay the Bull from the region of the Moon, which was said to represent the fullness of life. Mithras was reluctant to do this but acquiesced in deference to the divine will; in the ensuing struggle between god and bull, other animals joined in - the dog, and scorpion and the snake. After Mithras was successful a quarrel broke out between Mithras and Apollo, but they were reconciled and celebrated a banquet."

See any connection with Jesus Christ ?

The logic of death is that we all die and cannot resurrect ourselves. But only Jesus Christ is resurrrected. So if Mithras or Isis or some other pagan god is seen as "resurrected", it does not mean that Jesus Christ's followers stole the logic of resurrection from the fantasy of Mithras and Isis on resurrecting from the dead. Most of the living have this hope that Christians believe is fulfilled by Jesus Christ, the resurrection of their own bodies in glory.

December 25 was deliberately chosen by the church to mark the celebration of Christ's birth, mostly to offset the pagan celebrations connected with the "birth" of the same gods you mention above. It does not mean that Christians believe that Christ was born on December 25th.

Now you understand....

Do you not think God would have known all this speculation would be going on? Do you not know that even when people saw the lame walk and the blind see they still doubted Jesus as the Son of God? Do you think that after all these centuries you can destroy Christianity? Many have tried and where are they today?

Bible is a true book. It does not mentioned that Jesus is God or Son. It mentioned "The Lord our God, the Lord is ONE". The concept of original sin and saviour was really later invented and incorporated by Romans later taken from these old myths.
