My cat's all three have no claws and are happy as pie. I've had cats my whole life and have always declawed them and never once has it changed a cat's personality for life. You just have to be sure that they don't go outside.God bless!!
P.S. I just told my hubby about this question, and he just laughed and said that they are actually a lot nicer (personality wise) after their claws are out. All the anti declaw propaganda is bunk. I've had cats my whole life, and have never had one that was traumatized by being declawed.

Yes there is something. Go to the store, any store that has contact paper. Buy a roll of the clear plastic. Stick it to everything that the cats are clawing, including your furniture, the adhesive won't hurt your furniture if you ever decide to peel it off. They don't like the plastic to claw. Make sure you have a carpet covered cat post, or tree for them to claw as this is a very strong instinct. They feel the need to sharpen their little claws on trees outside, so when they are inside and there are no trees to claw, they use what is available...your furniture. Prepare a spray bottle with water, and whenever one even goes near a favorite clawing spot, spray them with water and yell "NO". Be consistent and viligant. Also, cats hate the smell of moth balls. You could put some moth balls in and around the furniture where they frequent so they will stay away. I'm hoping this behavior hasn't gone on for very long, since it's easier to prevent unwanted behavior than to stop it. Good luck.

You can train them onto scratching posts, just place them near their favorite inappropriate objects to scratch and cover the inapropriate object with double sided sticky tape or aluminum foil and they shouldn't want to touch it.
There is a product called Soft Claws, they are soft plastic caps that you glue on to their freshly trimmed nails and they should last for 4 to 6 weeks, with those on, they won't be able to dammage anything.

I have 3 cats who used to claw at things. We found that if you put double sided tape on the itmes this will stop them.

Having their claws removed is not an option. It is very inhumane, it is actually amputating the end digit of every finger. You can try just trimming their nails with a nail clipper. Wrap them in a towel if they don't like you fiddling with their feet.

There are repellents. Pet-Mart has something that looks like a box of cardboard with corrugated on it's end. Cats like this.

*Keep their nails clipped or take them to a groomer or vet every 4-6 weeks.
*Give them something they can scratch and place in spots they like to scratch. (sisal rope covered posts and cardboard scratchers are popular & catnip sprinkled on them helps too)
*soft claws are rubber tips or nail caps you can apply...works great!
*there is also sticky paws...it's like double sided tape and the cats don't like stepping/scratching it. I have also heard aluminum foil taped to surfaces is unappealing to them.
You can train them not to do this! It's just like training a dog not to jump on people. Do not de-claw your cats it's terribly inhumane.

Yeah have a few scratching posts, cut their nails, and get a product called 'Bitter Apple.' It seems to deter my cats from the couches.
