It's called a side stitch. It's from not breathing correctly. Breathe in through the nose, out the mouth.
If the side stitch occurs while running, slow down to walking, lift your hands above your head (even rest them on your head) and breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth. They should go away within a few minutes.

its a stitch...and doctors do know what cause it.when your running it aint only your legs getting a work out.there are actually a few things that can cause it as people have said abive.such as eating before you run(leave it til atleast an hour after you eat)....because you have not warmed up properly .warms ups should be done before any kind of exercise .but one of the main reasons for getting a stitch is because you are not used to running(or exercise in general)when you are running you use muscles in you side that dont get used that often...so because they are not used to it they cramp up.just like legs muscles ache after squats etc.they only way to prevent this happening is to jog a little every day

Thats just a "side ache". Even doctors don't know what causes that. But here's the good news...as you get in better shape you will no longer get them. Its just a sign your not in the best shape yet. Keep jogging and they will stop happening.

You could be getting a cramp. Especially if you eat before you run. I know that when I run sometimes I get pains in my stomach because my body cant handle any more running so I normally take a break.

Its dehydration -drink at least a glass of water before jogging and keep sipping it while you exercise.

well that's a cramp, everybody get them. it could be for three different reasons, either you have your period, have had to many liquids to drink before jogging, or you are a little out of shape.

Either you just ate something recently, your not warming up before you workout or you need more water.
