Christians push their beliefs on me. When I'm at work, when I am driving down the street, even when I am at my own home.
There is this mis perception that many people have, that you need to have a religion to have morals. This is why I am an atheist who has a cross hanging from a rear view mirror, so that the cops are nicer to me (before they were complete asshats to me, stupid small city cops). I am not open about my atheism, because I live in such a backwards town that I fear that people would treat me different, and they would.
I have many family members who are Christians, my mother's side is Seventh day adventists, my father's side is baptist, with the exception of my paternal grandfather who is a pentecostal pastor. And my in-laws are Lutheran. I really do get all perspectives.
Just so you know, I don't have "run ins" with them, they are an everyday occurrence. In fact about an every hour occurrence, over 80 % of America is Christian, there is no "several run ins" about it.

Christians are just like other people. There are as many different kinds of christians as there are christians. So yeah, I can't say what I think about you being a christian. Some christians are very kind and some are very obnoxious and hypocritical. Both say that they are the real deal. I'm not going to decide for you who is a real christian and who is not. I think that it is pointless to judge people according to if they call themselves christian or not. If you want to do that fine, but I won't go along with it.

Uh. OK. So, you are a christian, eh? It doesn't really affect me in any way, does it? So what.
I've never had a "run-in" with a christian, but I do love occasional lively conversations and debates with them.
Why, do you think that all atheists are aggressively antagonistic towards religious folks? Well, maybe a few are but they are a minority - and the thing with angry minorities is that they tend to have a loud voice. It's the same story with creationists - they have a loud voice, but they represent a minority of christians (at least among the christians that I know).

I have had a lot of bad run-ins with Christians, simply because they look at my body, and judge me before they get to know my heart and mind. A lot of them think that it only matters who you are on the outside. I admit I am mistrusting of anyone that comes up to me and starts talking about the "Word of God" right away.
I try to be nice to all people and ask the same of them.
They think that since my hair is short, pink, and that I am pierced and wear black I must be a bad person and worship Satan--when in fact I have saved many lives and take care of many people regardless of race, orientation, or religion. I try to do all the good I can because people deserve to be loved for who they are.
I don't care what religion you are, but in asking this question you seem to prove yourself to think for you--not what others say. You seem nice, and I'm not going to judge you on your religion.

Why are people putting "normal" and "average" christian in their answers....Who are they to classify who is "normal" and "average" Christian....especially if they are not Christains....
I have no problem with people having a religion....but I do not want people to be as biased as people can become based on how they interpret their bible....People are very jaded based on what they are taught and it has been my experience that people that are taught what is right and wrong based on what their religion says are more biased, but people as a whole tend to fear what they do not understand....One of my good friends does not think there is such a thing as being gay or bi....that they are in lust and cannot love someone of the same sex....and that the"devil is whispering in their ear"....telling them to commit "sacrilege"....and thinks that most people will burn in hell.......BUT she is a very nice person....if a bit weird.....I DO NOT agree with ANY of that, but I know that it is what she has been taught and we debate, but I do not push my beliefs on her nor does she push her beliefs on me....Although I DO dislike that she believes she is doing the right thing in judging and only she is in the right....that she believes she is not hypocritical....and if she is, she will repent and it will be okay............Individuals in one religion are all different, therefore I can only tell you about the people that I have encountered....and with those I cannot JUDGE a WHOLE of people in a religion....I can conclude nothing of the "us" you speak of, but of the few I have encountered....
It is SAD when people like Saint Lucifer say in their response that they have to hide what they believe from the cops....Why should the anyone have to hide what they believe....????
THAT is the kind of closed mindedness that I wrote of earlier in my response....to think that the police in your town are that biased....that is a SCARY thought and people are that way....people are taught to be and people become that way....in this SAD, SAD world we live in....BUT those people are only the ones that get the attention, not the ones that should mould your opinion of this group as a whole....

if you are the kind of xian who does not force the subject into every conversation, who does not attempt to 'witness' against my will, who respects others and is a tolerant unbigoted person, then i am fine with you!!
i would not talk about my beliefs at work unless relevant etc, so i would expect the same from people of other beliefs.
i work with someone who is potty about jesus and has strong faith, but we have really good talks about each others practices and get on very well as neither judges the other.
blessed be

My conclusion about the average Christian is that many can be smart and articulate, but need to be more open to new ideas and thinking outside the box.

I don't really care, as long as you leave me out of it. As far as I know, the Constitution is still in effect. (The Governator has something to say about that, though.)

people stereotype Christians after the most visible ones - which would be fundies and evangelicans.
The majority of perfectly normal people in non-extreme denominations slip under the radar.
