It could be caused by poor circulation DVT (deep vein thrombosis) or fluid retention. Just to name a few. Are there any other symptoms? The DVT most commonly occurs after for example a plane trip as you are sitting in one position for a long period of time. You will need to ask your Dr. to get a proper diagnosis as there would be a slim chance of a Dr. reading this and being able to diagnose with such little information. You need to physically see the effects of what you are describing to get an accurate diagnosis.
Good luck, but please see your Dr. soon.
Hope this helps a little.

Swelling of the lower legs, sometimes is called "edema". If you can push your finger or thumb down to the shin bone for a little bit, then release it, and it leaves an indentation of the skin and tissue, that means the tissues are holding too much water. It can be a symptom of heart failure (the heart is not moving enough fluid out of the tissues). You shouldprobably see a doctor. I have this problem and they can give you diuretics to help relieve the water by making you urinate. I would not self medicate, though, as you can deplete your system of nutrients that you need, such as potassium, which may also need to be supplemented if you take a diuretic. It is always safer to go and see a doctor when you have medical concerns, than to ask strangers on Yahoo to diagnose you.

Sometimes this will happen if you sit alot. But on the other hand it could mean diabetes or heart problems. Go to your doctor if this continues on a regular basis.
