My husband and I babysat two kittens for about 2 1/2 days a couple of weeks ago. A few days later, we had broken out with ringworm (the family who owns the kittens also has it, but much worse). We are about 2 weeks in of treating the fungus on us, but I am concerned that it may be all over our couch, where the kittens slept while they were here. Is there some sort of special shampoo or cleaner that I can get to clean my couch with? I can't take anything off of the couch and wash it, so it must be something that I can apply to the couch as is. Thanks!

Just wipe the couch down the best you can and spray it with anti-fungal spray that you can get out of the store.

Steam cleaning should do it.

The treatment you're on, you maybe could save some money. Monistat 3 or the generic Miconazole at Walgreens was a lot cheaper than the pharmacist cream and it was actually stronger at 4% instead of the 2%. It did take 2 months for my spot to go away (kept it under a bandage, I only had the one) and my cat healed up in one month, but we both used the Monistat 3 and saw good results with it. It was about half the price of the prescription stuff.

We ended up with ringworm once, and I had the carpets and upholstered furniture professionally cleaned. They had something they added to the mix that was supposed to be anti-fungal.

Of course, once we realized what it was, the cats that developed ringworm were isolated. We vacuumed a lot and threw out the bag, washed everything washable. It eventually went away, but it was certainly a horror. I hope to never get it again.

I read somewhere that if not cleaned up, it can be contagious for two years! Aaauuurrrggggh!
