I am pretty familiar on how to use other types of plugs such as poppers or spoons but i was told that the bucktail is very unique in that it can it travels much differently from other types of plugs. Is there a certain way to use bucktails vs. any other type of plug?

Just lift the rod tip after every couple of turns of the reel. Some days a faster reel works best, some days a slower reel. Bucktails are excellent lures. It was issued by the US Government during WWII as part of the survival kit for downed pilots.

first of all a bucktail is usualy a large spinnerbait for pike and muskie

use a figure eight pattern in the water of the boat dont stop in it and do it fast and dont be afraid to dip half the pole in the water

stop and go methods are simple and work great too

the only bucktail i know of is a leadhead jig with deerhair, dyed in colors, tied to it. cast it iut, let it sink, then pump and reel, let the jig sink, repeat. 3 to 4 turns of the handle should be enough.
