I have noticed that whenever people can't carry a conversation because of their limited vocabulary they get angry & lash out at the other person in desperation to the point that they call the other person names. Perhaps if the illegals made more of an effort to learn to speak english so that they can be able to carry dilogue there might be better understanding of where we as Americans stand. When I convers with legal or illegal immigrants in spanish I can bring even the hardest of them realize our dilema & we come to agreement on verious issues. There is of course the ones that are so narrow minded that they can see through a keyhole with both eyes at the same time. But what we have here basically is a [failure to cmmunicate]. Maybe what we need is good pro & con debates, maybe than they will realize it's not a race issue but a legal issue.

Illustration, an alcoholic can't be helped untill he admits he has a problem. If the gov. would have insisted that the new immigrants speak engish I believe we would have less of a problem now. & more of them would understand that our problem is not only ours but theirs too being that they are Americans too.

Thank you Mr. super chee, you have proven my point. You have nothing to say so you lash out. My spelling is bad but you have a limited vocabulary.

You make a good point. It is not that people keep their primary language but that they are stubborn and lazy to learn English. By doing so both sides could communicate.
Language is a binding element in any society. If we were all speaking different languages how would we get anything accomplished?
You have a very good point.
Yes the race card. That is a real sign of a weak mind. Cannot communicate any proper ideas and begin to feel ashamed and so lash out in their own ignorance.

I met those and they are even worse. I am patient when trying to understand those who don't speak my language. When there is a communication probblem they would yell and blame me. If you come to this site , you will notice an attitude of why can't Americans learn Spanish.
It's a multi tier problem, and the language barrier is not on top of my list as the cause of the problems with immigration. Of what you said, there are those who do get fustrated and lash out, but then again their are those who have a different attitude and blame themselves. Frankly it's not my fault they don't speak English, and people who get angry on something like that is not the type of people we want here.
Personal note. Two days ago I was at Panda Express and they had a Hispanic take my order. Like always I ask him not to give me a fork. He keeps reaching for a fork though, and I repeat my self, "No Fork". He repeats what he hears, something between no fork or roast pork, and continue grabbing the fork. I did not go on a loud tyrade, and finally take the fork, but I was annoyed. Lately I've seen more people with out the basic understanding of English working up front in businesses.

In my opinion, immigrants should be encouraged to learn english. A few classes should at least be mandatory because they are in a country where english is the formal language. It would also be an advantage for them. There is nothing more frustration than a stubborn immigrant who would just rely on translated documents and translators. That would mean total dependency. There should be a limit to the government's accomodation.

Well, I can only say people who are refusing to learn English sell themselves short. Why? Because English is the world language. Thats why. Don't believe me? Go to Europe, go to Asia. Most speak English as a second language and therefore use it for commercial purposes. Secondly, most of the English colonies are successes or are becoming sucessful. Now, all of you native speakers, don't get cheeky. Its still good to learn a foreign language, for when you go to another country. The Germans will bend over backwards for you if you just speak a bit of German to them. Still the illegals are screwing themselves because the whole world is learning english.

The inability of most illegal aliens being able to speak English is a reason but it is not the only reason. How easy it would be to test a Mexican with the English language. For example. Mexicans say, "vacaciones." And when Mexicans try to convert it into English they say vacations. Every US citizen knows that we don't go on vacations... we go on vacation. Immediately, we know we are dealing with someone not familiar with the US way of life. Similar tests were used to weed out spies in the front lines of the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. Questions of culture or language easily identify those who, 'fit-in' and those who don't. I believe that it has now come to the point were illegal aliens don't even care to fit in. And their in lies the rub.
Every culture that has immigrated to this country has tried to 'fit-in' expect now. Too many illegal aliens, 12.5 million, are overloading and taxing the infrastructure to its limits. The benefits... there are none. They services that are claimed these illegal aliens are providing do not add up to the 2.5 trillion dollars they are costing the state and federal governments.
It's not just about the language, it's not just about business, it's not just about changing immigration laws.
ITS ABOUT THE RAPING OF AMERICA
It's not going to solve itself. It's not going to get better. And the severity of the corrective action necessary to re-establish order is compounded daily.
IT IS DISCRIMINATION
You have 12.5 million Hispanics completely ignoring the immigration laws of my country.
I am being treated unfairly by a group of people on the basis of prejudice.
THINK ABOUT IT.
If their actions cause me harm, or undue hardship, through no fault of my own, it is discrimentation AND... could their actions (ignorance of the law) be interpreted on the whole as a hate crime. I say, "Yes!"
We have laws... lets enforce them. NOW!

Communication goes two ways. The static that interfere with communication is just fear. If each would extend a compassion to learn from each other, both groups would be better to understand. So in saying as an American I would truelly love the oppertunity to learn as many languages I could, so that I may communicate with as may as I could. My life would be better enlightened when I understand what another has to share.

I think it's more than simple ignorance of English. Many of the pro-illegals are closed to the possibility that the illegals are destructive.
I know that I have looked at both sides and researched the topic. Have they looked at the other side? Do they want to have a reasonable discussion or are they just going to stomp their feet and call us racist?
You are right. It isn't about race. This is a legal issue. However, when the pro-illegals get cornered and run out of legitimate arguments, the pull out the race card every time.

All I can truthfully say is that it is hard to have the same personality in a different language unless you are VERY good at it.
My husbands first language is Hungarian, when he speaks his native tongue he is a very funny guy. In English he comes off as sort of dry.
I am living in Hungary right now and I can tell you that it really is frustrating to try to be yourself in a different language.
In person I am very (if I don't say so myself) sweet and open but in Hungarian I come off as mentallly challenged.
You really have to give someone credit for being brave enough to try and speak in a different language.

Unfortunately, they do not want to recognize it as a legal issue. If they were to acknowledge that they were committing a crime for personal gain, they would have no defensible position. So again you end up dealing with ad hominem (personal) attacks. The practice is a rather old one. If you cant win a debate with facts, assassinate the character of your opponent and hope that you appear to win the argument based upon the fact that people were more interested in how well you insulted the other side instead of the facts surrounding the discussion. Its not an issue of communication, rather it is an issue of persons who are willing to engage in criminal activity not wanting to be held accountable for their actions.

Most towns and cities offer free GED classes and English classes in the day and evening for people who can not speak English.
There is a saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do" In other words why come to America if you are not going to blend in and welcome the American way of life? I am not saying lose your original customs, but why bother coming all this way for a new life if you refuse to adapt to it, you might of well stayed where you were!
