All I've found out is that in terms of difficulty for English speakers, Russian is easier than Arabic, but harder than German. What are your experiences?

I agree completely! and it's so funny because it's almost exclusively native speakers who claim that, and I mean what do they even know about learning the language? english is my second language, and I find it so much easier than spanish, which I'm studying as well. in spanish you have all these verb conjugations and different tenses, which english lacks to a very high degree. I guess it's some monolinguals' way of justifying knowing only one language, sorta like "oh yeah I only know one, but at least it's the hardest language to learn!". having said this, I've seen this tendency among native speakers of other languages as well. I'm swedish, and from time to time I come across swedes who claim that the swedish language is the hardest to learn. swedish is not hard to learn either, but I would say probably harder than english.

I've studied several languages, and Russian is far more difficult than French or German for an English speaker. It's still part of the Indo-European family and has many similar words, but the grammar is nasty (and strangely enough, Italian turned out to be more difficult than French or German).

Im working on it now and its definitely harder than German.
German uses a more logical word order ( well at least to me ).
Well that and it uses the same alphabet.

A completely different alphabet makes a language much harder to learn. If I can see the words in phonetically at least I have an idea how to pronounce them. hehe

And I have seen Night Watch ( Nochnoy Dozor ) that spot on mentioned. Interesting. I like movies that that .. was a bit hard to follow but I liked it anyway.

Russian is a VERY difficult language to learn. It takes alot of dedication to learning it everyday! I'm from Russia, so it's my mother tongue. I used to be fluent, however when I was adopted and moved to America, I losted ALL of it! Now, I'm trying to relearn it, and it's still hard for me. On one hand, somethings I remember just because I used to be fluent, but it's still hard for me.

I suggest you try to find as many things that deal with the Russian langauge.

Websites: http://www.ilike2learn.com/ilike2learn/russian/index.html
http://blest.ru/- For some popular Russian music.

Books:
Get a Russian to English Dictionary.
Go to your local Barnes&Nobles bookstore and head for the language section. Look for the book titled,"Russian: 10 Minutes A DAy." That is WONDERFUL!!!

Movies:
One popular Russian movie over there and becoming popular over here is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/

It not so hard to learn basic Russian just to get by on the streets of Moscow. But to learn it seriously is very difficult because the Russian language keeps changing very fast. There are thousands of new words that appear and disappear very year just because they are fashionable or not fashionable. A foreign speaker will never learn Russian fully.
