My car has a cracked block and the repairs are probably going to be more than the car is worth, will an insurance company total the car if I file a claim and the car was not in an accident?

Insurance does NOT cover non-accident related losses. A cracked block (unless it was destroyed in a frontal collision) is a mechanical failure and does not meet the terms of 'loss' stated in black and white in your policy.

hmmm.. adjusters are good but not perfect, and your car is 3 years old. where was the impact? if the door was not hit, and if the car's skin is not pushed toward the front, then the window may or may not be said to be primarily caused by the impact. If the door and front bumper skin are touching, the impact was hard enough to knock the window off track (which is not too hard to fix, by the way) or just knocked it out of alignment. have your mechanic give you a written opinion on it and fax it to the adjuster.

Insurance doesn't cover that, sport. They only cover accident damage. You really thought a cracked block would be covered? Wow.

Sorry, no. Auto insurance doesn't cover mechanical failures, such as a cracked block. If the block was cracked due to a collision, then perhaps it would.

That's a maintenance item. You can't file an insurance claim for that. If you file a claim it will be rejected.

More important question is that, does your car insurance cover mechanical failures? Because most don't.

No, why should they? Insurance is not a maintenance plan. If it is mechanically not worth fixing, that is your write-off, not an insurance write-off.

NO, of course not. Insurance covers you and your car for ACCIDENTAL LOSS, not repairs.

You can't file a claim for uh...repairs like that. Only in accidents...or like theft if you are covered for it. But for maintainace of your car...they don't cover that.
